Anyone ever used or thought of using a Litter Maid cat litter box for there ferrets?? Was wondering if it would be possible? I currently have 6 ferrets and was just wondering if it would make things a bit easier on my end of cleaning if one of those could be used. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks

Are you talking about those "self-clean" boxes that are automated?

DANGER - too much rick of injury! Cats a less likely to investigate the mechanism, and it they do, they do NOT have : * the instinct to tunnel/burrow to go after prey * tiny pieces that could easily be injured
Also, I think (but do NOT know for sure) that the atomatic boxes are used with litter types that can be problematic for ferts (clay, clumping, and "strange manufactured pellets" that are TBD in terms of ferret safety.
I'm of the opinion that it's better safe than sorry.

Keep in mind, that while a bit of an onerous chore, cleaning the deposits from the litter pans twice a day allows us to keep a close eye on any health issues they may have. So much of what comes OUT of the ferret tells us what is going INSIDE the ferret, that distancing yourself from these health clues could put your ferret at risk.

That's a VERY good point Kim! We were all so concerned about fuzzy getting paws caught never even thought of that. It's become just so automatic to double check ;D

I have a hard enough job keeping my fuzzies safe, i'm not gonna add anything that could potentially be a hazard lol...

I wish my ferrets and my pocketbook would allow me to use SS or WBCL. Sent from my SCH-M828C using ProBoards
