Hi Guys. My name is Alex, and Im new to owning ferrets. I am getting my first ferret on thursday. She will be anywhere from 8 weeks to 12 weeks. I ordered her from a local pet shop and she was suppose to come in last week. I've done plenty of research nonstop. I will hope to post pictures soon and I cant wait to get to know everyone. I do have one question though. Does anyone have any good ideas for a mix of kibble? Thanks

Yea I've considered it. I'm just a little grey in that area, so I'll do a little more research.

Hi and welcome on board Alex Congrats on the new baby...we need pics you know. Sorry, Sherry knows more about the whole kibble thing than I do. I haven't fed the stuff in over 15 yrs...it's done some radical changes since then...not all of the good either but it is better or so I'm told Check out our nutritional section, read the information there...there's got to be something about kibbles...we don't all feed raw Please, take a prowl around check out the various sections and threads...read them through..ask questions, get involved in some of the discussions (a great way to learn ). Everyone's friendly, so don't be shy. Can't wait to see the photos of your little one ciao

If you have the time and dedication you should join the mentoring program for the raw switch. We did so much research but after reading so much we felt overwhelmed. Signed up for the mentoring program and never looked back

Welcome!! I'm Bella, the only kibble I really like/use is Evo and I only give that to my oldest who has Insulinoma, this was he can graze all day... He actually just started refusing it a little while ago though. Like Sherry said, take a good read through the nutrition section, a ferret that age will take to raw much easier than an older ferret (who would have to be switched). The only ferret I've had from kithood is SoCo and, man, it was so cool to watch my tiniest ferret tear apart the raw even better than my big guys. It's very rewarding and the healthiest way to go good luck! If u have any questions everyone on here is super helpful, patient and sweet!

To make raw feeding easier on yourself (an if your lazy like me ) if money is not an issue you can just but at least 3 different pre-made raw flavors.

To add on to what Kelly was saying, freeze dried raw is very similar to kibble but has the nutritional benefits of raw. You can feed it as rehydrated meals and then leave some dry for snacking. It is expensive, especially for babies.
Anyway, welcome and hope to see your future fuzz soon!!!!

You can get freeze dried raw/ hydrated raw (which is what I use). I get mine at a wolfgang bakery near me. But if you find a brand you want to use, usually somewhere on their website they should have a product locater to find some where near you that sells it.

I know the lady who does CHP. i know you can get freeze dried in certain healthy pet stores, where are you located? I could give you a few good ones i have dealt with. Online is easiest to get if you don't live in a big city

Wysong's Epigen90 fert kibble is what I used before I switched over to raw. Their Archetypal I freeze-dried is good too, the kids loved that. The other Freeze-dried product they got was Stella & Chewy's feline Chick, Chick, Chicken Dinner. I think that the feline FD products have less un-digestable stuff than the canine version, but Stella & Chewy's does a very good job regardless!
Note that Wysong's Archetypal II (a kibble) is **NOT** good. It contains all kinds of yucky stuff ferrets can't digest.
You can get both the Epigen90 and the Archetypal I from Casey's Hidden Pantry. For me it wound up being cheaper than ordering it from Wysong's website.
