Say for example if your water was to go out and it was gonna be a while before it came back on and you have flavor water like crystal light and or the fit and active mix drinks. I was wondering if they were ok to give as temp water if a ferrets water were to go out and you had no other suplament of water to give?
If not should I go to the grocerie store and stock up on water if it ever happens. Though at the moment he is good on water, but, i dont know when our waters gonna be back on since its currently off since the water companys working on pipes or something.

Most of the flavored waters have artificial sweeteners which I read are toxic for ferrets, so it's probably not safe for him to drink. If you can get some bottled water for him I would do that.

Alright and is there any brand of bottle water that would be the safest to get him? Or any regular bottled water with out flavor be good?

Any brand of plain water (not flavored, not carbonated, no vitamins or added minerals, etc) is great. I would get the cheapest you can find, it won't make any difference what brand. In fact if you have an empty bottle or milk jug you could just wash it out and get some water from a friend's house or a public restroom

I just wanted to double check on what I'd need to do next time it happened and if he empties his water with in the time frame its off. But, at least I know what to do know if it happens agian.

Definitely stay away from anything flavored. Even a tiny amount of Xylitol ( artificial sweetner) can kill a dog in a matter of hours, never mind a ferret. Why not buy a giant jug of bottled water and keep it in your house for such emergencies

Never give any flavored water with sweeteners like crystal light. The artificial sweeteners have killed many ferrets. Give pedialyte clear if you have nothing else. Or buy a jug of spring water or distilled water from the grocery store.

And don't buy the infant water with the fluoride in it.

If there are any natural water sources nearby (lake, stream, etc.) get some of that and filter through a sock or pair of pantyhose to remove large debris. Then boil the water to kill parasites and bacteria. It is now potable. Or build a dew or rainwater trap. Drinkable water is the first objective in a survival situation, next to fire and a wind-block if in freezing conditions, keep kindling and a magnesium/flint block handy as well as a steel pocketknife to strike the flint.

When your water lines start working again, be sure to run them for a long time before refilling water bottles. After your water is running clear, its a good idea to keep several bottles of their regular water in the freezer. THis can help avoid such troubles. Also sometimes strange waters can stop the ferret from drinking as well as upset their gut bacteria. So if you change water, even plain water, don't be surprised if he gets a change in his deposits! When at all possible it is highly recommended to have on hand in your freezer enough food and water for your ferret(s) to hold them for 3 days to two weeks - depending on the natural hazards common to your area.
Cheers, Kim
