Mojito, who has recently been having very watery poops, has now stopped eating bones. When his poops first started being watery, he was still eating normally (I.E. like a horse) I keep EVO out for him (because of his Insulinoma) and it looks like he hasn't been eating that either. He isn't pooping any more or less than usual its just that when he does poop it's very watery and (sorry if this is TMI/graphic) loud/farty. He isn't grinding his teeth or pawing at his mouth, he isn't lethargic, teeth haven't changed, gums are normal color and not tacky... I don't know if the refusal to eat bone and kibble is grumpyness, him feeling worse, or him being lazy but it certainly isn't going to help the watery poop problem any. Our vet visit isn't until next Saturday the 18th (they have no openings before then) and I was wondering if I can use bone meal powder to supplement until we get to the vet? If so, it should be human grade, right? Suggestions on brand? Can I get it at GNC or CVS or somewhere like that? How much should I give? I may also be able to talk the butcher at the Latino Market into grinding bones up for me but I'm not sure because he's new (we were friends with the old butcher but he went back to Honduras)... If I can talk him into it, would that be better? Again, how much should I give?? Thanks in advance

Is he eating anything willingly? If not it's obviously an emergency. If he is willing to eat, by all means use bone meal or even powdered eggshells as a temporary replacement. Have the vet check his mouth and teeth. Teeth for a bad one, mouth for possible ulcers.

Will do, Sherry, thank you. He is eating other things normally (meat hunks, soupies, and when offered bone in meat he is happy to eat around the bone but then just discards the bone). My first instinct was eggshell but we used all of our eggs and are trying not to buy more food (to prepare for the move) but if I can't get ahold of the bone meal powder, I'll cave and get more eggs. Thanks soo much

I went to petsmart and CVS after work because I had to go the opposite direction than I usually do to pick up the keys for the office I am working at this weekend. I couldn't find the bone meal. PetCo is about a half hour away and GNC is close but its in the mall and traffic is terrible this time of day. I didn't want to be home too late because I don't want to mess up his pred dose. Tomorrow I am going to see what I can find at the pets plus by work, though I doubt they'll have it its at least worth a shot. I did buy beef pro-treat raw natural treats at petsmart. I wasn't happy with the fact that they don't show % of each item but it was the only thing in the entire store that I could find that included ground bone as an ingredient. Plus it is grain free/natural and its freeze dried. I want to put it into soup for him but I was hoping someone could take a look at it first and tell me what they think... "All natural freeze dried dog treats with real meat, fruits and vegetables! Unfortunately, you can't seem to get away from them adding non digestibles for carnivores However, it won't help much if any with bone replacement value in his diet. Can you get some commercial raw for him?

Maybe, Im a little iffy on how that'd work out tho. If I have it shipped to my place it would have to sit in the mail lock box until I got off of work and they're metal. Its been pretty warm out too. If I have it sent to TTFRs I probably wont be able to get to it until next wednesday or friday. Hare today and Gratefulpet ship monday-wednesday... with gratefulpet I'd have to order 28lbs which is just too much. Hare today would be my best option (min ship weight 5lbs) but I don't know when I'd have to order it so that it'd be there by wednesday.
What if (at least for the mean time) I put the stuff from petsmart in water and strain it so I just have the ground bone and then I mix that in with ground meat?

If it's human grade, just sprinkle it on his meat chunks. Otherwise, I'd stick to eggshell powder.

Please watch that treat as it has garlic and flax in it. The garlic is not a good addition but the flax may cause him to be more itchy. It's just a thought ciao

Thanks guys!! I had no idea about the garlic and flax!! Thank you so much! My dog liked the cube I gave him so they'll just be dog treats then If I can't get human grade bone meal powder tonight I'm going to get a half a dozen eggs and grind up the shells. Any ideas on how tto not waste all the insides??

Feed 'em to the ferts? I try to do one a week per ferret. Freezing solidifies the yolk, but I've never tried frozen/thawed egg with them, so no idea. You could also make a couple of cakes!

The last time they had egg was sunday, I put the egg + shell in a soupie that they split. I always worry that I'm going to give too much but I didn't realize they can have one *each* a week!! Do u think it would be okay for them to get one each tonight or is it too soon? Cakes?? Bahahaha my cakes always look more like chared circular bricks. I may be a heck of a cook but I'm an awful baker (probably because I never wanna turn the oven off, smells too yummy!!) lol I might actually try thawed whole egg, it can be like an experiment lol

I recently bought some bone meal powder at Sprouts Farmer's Market, in the vitamins section. I checked Whole Foods vitamin section and couldn't find any, but they did have it at Sprouts. You could also order it online if you don't mind waiting! I have started sprinkling it on their food when they get a bone-free meal, especially hearts or worse, livers! I tried sprinkling bone meal powder on there and it helped make their poops firmer and less messy
