My last holdout, Mr. Hobbs, has finally switched to raw! I've had him just over a year, now. I've been pouring olive oil on his soup, so that he's getting a taste of the meat while licking up the oil (been doing that for awhile now), but he still preferred kibble.
Things came to a head last Sat. when I put my back out (nothing like a seized back to make you feel like you're 90). I ran out of kibble and was unable to drive. He was a little put out at 1st, but adjusted almost immediately, to my surprise. And today, I saw him chowing down on Feline Natural freeze-dried, which he has always refused before.
This as been the bright spot in a very frustrating week. Due to my back, I haven't been able to walk the dogs since Sat, and, wouldn't you know it, it has been sunny for the last 5 days (which if you know anything about living on the wetcoast, you'll realieze is an anomally). At least the ferrets could play outside, but it took me an hour to take them out one by one to their enclosure as I couldn't carry anything over a couple of pounds, and would have to rest between ferrets. To top it all off, just as my back was a wee bit better, I got the flu, and threw my back out again vomitting. I then got a migrain, and there were no pain killers in the house.
Through it all, the animals have been very patient. Gump, my dane x, stood patiently beside the bed and let me use him to heave myself up, and never complained about the swearing ;D. The cat has been snuggling on top of me purring away(though that may be more about her than me, as she realized pretty quick that I couldn't make her move ). And last night, Hobbs climed up on my pillow and groomed my hair. They're a lot more understanding than mast people I know.
