I've been looking around for months now. My name is Colleen and I live in Texas with my husband and our three ferrets, Lamb Chop, Badger Face, and Falkor. I'm very interested in going raw. Yesterday I purchased a Ferret Nation from some folks for my weasels and it came with something unexpected. A starving female ferret who's about a year old. I had told these folks that I was only interested in purchasing their Ferret Nation cage, nut when I saw what rough shape this little girl was in, I couldn't let that go on. I took her in and she's living in my ferret's old cage. I plan to fatten her up and Foster her until I can find her a loving, educated home. Any recipes I could feed her to put some fast weight on her poor little body would be much appreciated.

Welcome! Glad you've finally posted! If you want to switch to raw, consider signing up for a mentor! They can really help you one on one. What an angel for taking in that sick little girl. The best way to fatten her up is to feed her some raw soups with some extra fat. Uncured bacon (pork side) is full of fat and most ferrets love the stuff! Congrats on the FN! And where are the pixs!? As a long time lurker, you should know we love pics

Hi Colleen Welcome on board. Thank you for rescuing the little one, she needs her lovins just like all the other little fuzzes. Please feel free to prowl the site, check out various threads. You may want to take particular notice of our nutritional section. A good bit of TLC and a good diet will help put some weight on your new little one. Don't push it too hard. Often, malnourished fuzzes get upset stomachs when they're first offered a good diet. Ask questions, everyone's friendly and will be more than willing to help out. You sure you're not going to keep that new foundling? Oh, and everyone here loves pictures... That just about covers it. I hope that I will be seeing you around ciao

Thank you all very much for the quick replies. Haha, I'm trying not to keep her. Three is enough for now, and my husband wants to get another when he gets back from Iraq next year. I may fall in love with her, but all remains to be seen. Right now my main concern is her malnutrition. She seems very healthy otherwise. She is friendly and playful, eyes bright and clear. Her nose looks good, too. Just the right amount of moist, and her stools are firm and good. I will check out the nutrition threads and see if I can whip her up something she'll like. Ease her into it. I probably will sign up for a mentor for my own ferrets. I have loads of pictures, and will post them in the pictures thread ASAP, haha.

Hello, and welcome So glad you could rescue this poor wee mite! Def. check out the nutrition section. There's a thread on soupies as well. Do be prepared for an upset tummy, and funky stools. You might want to go a bit slow with her on it, to keep it to a minimum.

Hi and Welcome! It's hard to say "No" to a fuzz in need, I know...I couldn't say no to the extra 8 after adopting my first two! The neglect babies are always the hardest but end up loving you so much and nursing them back to their pudgy, happy bounce around like a maniac selves is very rewarding. I would suggest some raw soupie with some extra fat in it, I save all of my chicken skins when I'm cooking for the family ( I always de-skin my chicken..the texture is just too much for me ) and will add that into a meal for my group or when I'm tending to a fuss that;s malnurished I'll chop it up and add to the soups or ground mixes... What type of food was she being fed?

Rose, I think they were feeding her some really cheap cat food. I asked them, and they said they didn't have anymore and couldn't remember what brand. Figures. I found a couple little fish shaped kibbles in the bottom of the cage before I scrubbed and sanitized everything, though, so that was my best guess.
