So, the kids are finally making the switch ;D The store was 100% out of chicken liver though... Went to get beef liver instead, except wound up coming home with what is labeled as pork liver accidentally (the section said beef liver...the label on the package, upon closer inspection at home, says pork liver ) Is pork liver okay? It's raw, obviously

Also, the hearts were packaged with the gizzards so I now have a LOT of gizzards on my hands...anything I can do with these? Or the marrow for beef marrow bones?

EXCELLENT. Oh, and for those of you who don't know, I'm making a large batch of raw soupies 'cos I bought a whole chicken Should I chuck in some gizzard or marrow along with the raw chicken, hearts, and liver?

Gizzards are tough to blend/puree... My Penne eats whole chunks and is chowing down on bones, never tried marrow bones though.

Gizzards will toast your blender Freeze them til they are eating chunks. And yes, you can put in the marrow. And pork liver is milder in flavour than beef liver, so more likely to be accepted

*phew* Did a 50-50 mix of Stella & Chewy's/raw soupies...HUGE hit with the kiddos!!! Practically no coaxing at all needed. Tomorrow (or if they're hungry again later tonight!) it'll be more a 75-25 raw soupie/S&C mix with a liiiittle less water mixed in. And of course....lotssss of pictures Before: After: Marley, top; Freya, bottom left (red); Soxx, bottom right (white) Since I'm sick I took a spoon (vs a finger) to offer to them before putting them down at their bowl...Marley & Soxx took right to it, with no convincing necessary. Freya I had to dab some on her nose before she went "OH RIGHT THIS IS NOT POISON...OMNOMNOMNOMNOM" I have this aversion to touching raw meat...something I am finally getting over Excuse the mask -- I have a cold and didn't want to get germs all over 5lbs of chicken My parents were in stitches taking these pictures. I've always refused to touch raw meat

Isn't it amazing what we are willing to do for these little creatures? ;D I don't sew. Period. Have since learned how to make bedding. I swore up and down I could never feed whole prey. Yeah, right ;D If they balk at the new mix, try adding in a wee bit more water first, then if they still do, you may have to add in a touch more S&C. But since they took to this so well, I'd be surprised if they balked longer than it takes to get them to taste it!

i gave them a second helping when we came upstairs for the night...they chowed it right down! same soupy consistency but more 75/25 raw soup/S&C. i love my lil furlings! such good brats for their mom. (sometimes anyway ) i wish i had known about raw diets a long time ago, when my daisy-kitty first got sick. she did get a long, happy 16 years but maybe she could have stayed healthier longer if i had fed her raw. i miss my daisy-kitty. we had to put her down the day before my birthday last june but...how is THIS for a batch of raw soups! i think it works out to something like 5.3lbs chicken including skin & fat, 10 chicken hearts, and the approximate equivalent of 5 chicken livers except it's pork liver, mixed with a little bit of water & the raw juices from the chicken. I'm debating if I want to mix in the marrow from the beef marrow bones or add that individually. and Marley's first taste: im off to bed

Also -- The kids loved their raw soupies this morning -- Freya took a little encouragement/a good bit of spoon feeding to get her started & I'm still mixing a little extra S&C into hers, but Marley requires no spoon feeding to get him started (I think he'll be ready for chunks soon!) and Soxx just followed the spoon to the bowl and chowed down!
