We bought 2 frozen mice one each for my babies as weve never tried them before. On returning from the shop where we also bought a a hooded cat litter tray for them to sleep in when i move them back outside. Anyway the frozen mice were left in the litter tray in the empty hutch thats in a hut outside. was there for hours I just remembered they were there and went to bring them inside they were to some degree defrosted so i put them in the fridge but im thinking should i just throw them away because they didnt defrost in the fridge. Though Scotland isnt that warm but probably not as cold as in the fridge i dont want them to catch anything they`ve been bad enough. will it be harmfull? Thanks for any replies

They will be fine. They can be left out 24 hours.

I usually leave mine to defrost on the counter, so I think they should be fine

There's an easy test, if the ferrets eat them they are OK to eat ;D They won't eat meat if it's truly gone completely bad... Sometimes they surprise me though with what meat they decide is good enough to eat!

oh good, i dunno if they will like it they never eat anyother meats ive tried. they`ll prob play or stash it. i might cut it open tho to encourage them to at least investigate it a little more and we`ll see what happens.

Hmm, well, when I was teaching my ferrets to eat meat, after they had learned to eat chicken and beef and pork, they still wouldn't eat mice at first. I had to blend them up into soup and mix it with other meat that they did like, to trick them into eating it. Then gradually the soup had more and more mouse in it, until they liked the taste. Gross huh. But now it's their favorite food. Ferrets are so silly Once they learned to like the taste, they actually preferred whole mice over chopped up or blended up mice though.

I didn't realize you were starting out with adult mice ;D I started mine on chopped up pinkies mixed with their other meat, and gradually worked them up from there. When we hit fur, I had to cut them open and squirt some tone inside before they'd even look at them

That's why They don't recognize meat as food. You'll likely have to go through a raw switch first to get them eating meat before they'll recognize what they are supposed to eat ;D Sign yourself up for a mentor, even if it's just for supplemental raw feedings!
