We want a FN! I can't justify it because A.) money is tight ( four different job offers - I'm just waiting on background checks, Grr!) and B.) Loki is never in it except for overnight. We have this (hideous) thing. I hate it, HATE IT. My MIL picked it up at a garage sale for $25. The shelves are a joke. There is no room in here. Loki slinkies from the top level to the bottom using his hammocks. I've been trolling CL looking for a better cage but it's just filled with sad stories of adoptable furbabies that I can't help. It makes me sad/angry/disgusted/etc. So, a little inginuity and our cage envy problems are solved! (For now ) AhA! A real shelf! I took the peg-hole board you can hang tools on and cut it to fit. The holes on the peg board are the same spacing as the bars in our cage so it can sit on the existing cross-beam support wires. I notched 4" out of one of the corners so Loki can go up and down. I covered the peg board in clearanced peel-n-stick tiles to protect it. All together this cost under $5. It's not perfect but it's a start! I need to tweak it some more for awesomeness, but I'm pretty happy so far. Here is Loki sleeping in it this morning in his pirate ship bedding. I'll try to get a better picture later when he's awake and the curtains are open for light. ~Kelli

Wow great job! Making a real 2nd floor like you did really improves that cage a lot! I bet your furries like it way better now and you don't really need to buy a new cage now Isn't it fun to use your own creativity to solve a problem? Alliekatt, are you talking about the small wooden shelves like Chins use for leaping ledges? That's an interesting idea, I wonder if ferrets would like them? Maybe a place to nap or something, if they are big enough? Ferrets don't really wall surf or use leaping ledges but they might use it for something.

That and you can use it for a big floor too. Just put a few extra hanging bolts in it. You can make them all different sizes.

My nephew and I once purchased a 3-story FN cage for $99 from CL The cage was for his 2 ferts, and he only wanted 2 stories, so that's how I ended up with a 3rd story for my cage And now it's their favorite story.

Is it just Loki living in there? It seems plenty roomy for just 1 fuzz, especially since you let him spend so much time outside cage! My fuzz mostly just eat, poop, and sleep when they are in their cage, they don't really play much. I see a good litterbox, good food and water dishes, and some comfy beds to sleep in there, looks good to me But if you do eventually get a FN you both will love it

Yea that's not a bad cage for 1 ferret at all. I would prefer to have Eva in a cage like that with the new level you installed then the stupid purple superpet cage she's in. Only thing is I would add a nice fleece baby blanket from the dollar store, goodwill or a thrift store to make it more comfy and discourage pooping on the level.

Great job! It looks so much better and cozier! I also got a great bargain. I got a FN 142 with 141 for $150. Had to travel 2 hours one way, and scrub it clean...but it was still a great deal!
