So I have decided I want to start giving Koda and Kenai supplements. I am just not confident that they are getting the right balance of organs and heart right now because of Koda's IBD. Does anyone have suggestions for a good multivitamin to cover the organ deficiency, and a good taurine supplement - other than FerretVite?
Not sure about a multivitamin, but I do use human grade taurine.
Ferrets: Contessa Kitties: Watson, Oskar DIP Sinnead, Vincent, Boris, Zeus and Athena, Willow, Mr. Frodo, Indie, Lucrezia, Judge, Odin, Miss Emily, Suki, Cody, Aristotle, Butterscotch, Frankenfurter. RIP Herne, Ligeia, and Mr. Stubbs
I use the taurine and eggshell powder from this site but they also have other supplements. knowwhatyoufeed.com/index.html They're aimed at supplementing raw diets for cats but cats and ferrets are very similar dietary wise.
I've always wondered if pancreas would really help IBD since it's pretty much a natural source of enzymes. I know it helps with pancreatic insufficiency (according to someone's review of the ground pancreas from Hare Today). It's also an organ, so I wonder if it would help them. You could try the capsule/powder form (like Jackie listed) or the ground pancreas from Hare Today (just mix a little in to their meals). It would be nice to know if it helped with IBD. I've also heard emu oil was great for IBD, but I really don't know (my guys love it)... kind of off subject a little, but it might be worth a try :3
Pancreatic enzymes are strange in that the work in a very restricted PH range. As a result, the work best when they are added to food about a half hour od so before feeding. The stomach acids typically destroy the enzymes, which is why they are added to food in advance of feeding . Essentially, the pancreatic enzymes pre-digest the food before it's eaten.
