Ok. So when I was looking in the store for what meat to give them next, I was gonna get some pork. But my fiance said "don't give them that, it has worms in it" or it'll give em worms...something to that effect. Now I was already tired and didn't want to argue, and couldn't really back it up with any facts so we got them some beef instead:
Does it have worms? I know people here feed it to their ferrets, so I know it's safe to feed...but I just want a rebuttal ready when I go to buy it again.
And Question Number Two:
Is there anything I can do to keep them from stashing food in the house? I don't mind them stashing it anywhere in the cage...I just would rather not find bits of meat around my house.

when in doubt put it in a deap freeze for 3 months. I really doubt it has worms in it but I was told don't give dogs pork because it makes them sick

No pork does not have worms. Regulations on pork have really clamped down, and part of the reason they were getting worms is I believe due to the diets they were fed which has since been regulated by the FDA/ Regardless, pork is totally safe to feed your ferrets and as I have one with IBD/food allergies it is a staple meat around here. Feed them in the cage. I only allow my boys to have food in the cage. When they are out to play, the cage is closed. Period. They do NOT get access to meat when they are let out to play. Period. Every rare occasion a piece gets shoved through the bars somehow, but that doesn't happen often.

Mine consider their cage a safe haven and get distressed if I shut it during playtime. Yes meat gets dragged around but never in areas that I go and they always eat their stashes so I don't worry about it.

Mine love pork as well What you are thinking of is trichinosis, and it's been pretty much eradicated here. Here's a link that describes why pork USED to have it: www.chow.com/food-news/53540/will-i-get-trichinosis-from-eating-undercooked-pork/In the past, pigs were infected with trichina worms from eating raw meat scraps. Today, most eat grain-based pellet food, similar to dog chow. Organically raised pigs munch grass. It’s illegal to feed raw meat to pigs raised commercially. Hence, trichinosis has been virtually eliminated.

Thanks for the replies. I knew it was safe, but my fiance is just like me and he wouldn't have given up unless I had a factual reason as to why it was safe to feed. Anddd since I didn't have one at the time I just dropped it See I wasn't sure if shutting the cage would be a bad idea. I know I've been told over and over again that they need access to their food and water 24/7, is this not necessary when raw feeding? I dunno how they'd react to having the cage shut though. For now I've just been keeping an extra careful eye on the meat and them and if I notice a piece missing I track it down. Of course today while cleaning I still found one piece hidden under their cage and one piece in the process of being eaten by my boy.

I feed twice a day. They get a LOT more nutrition from the raw than any over processed junk food As long as they have access to it while in the cage, they'll be fine Now, I do put enough out so there are a couple of pieces left at the next meal so they can snack when they are in there.
