I just did a big cage clean and my guys have gone into litter bootcamp at the moment! On their shelves I generally use lino but they soon stopped using their litter tray and used the shelves instead Would something else deter them from toileting on the shelves? Like carpet or blankets or something? I love the ease of lino mainly because its so easy to clean but not if they're gonna be pooping all over it... Now we call lino 'The poop deck'

Cloth covers and bedding tend to help deter them from pooping on shelves, but it doesn't always work. It worked pretty well with my ferrets. It might help if you can get some cloth that they sleep on, so that it has their sleeping scent, and put that down on the shelf, held in place so they don't just move it. For some ferrets the sleeping ferret smell will deter them from pooping and peeing in a spot (they don't want to poop and pee where they sleep). When my brats were having accidents in the cage, I moved their little round beds to cover the spots they were pottying in, and it worked for me. Your mileage may vary

I have heard about the sleeping scent thing but never actually tried it.. I saw in a post the other day that someone washed their bedding with a particular scent and once they were used to that they then sprayed areas of the house with a diluted version of the scent and they didn't poop or pee there anymore im gonna try that one for sure so maybe the sleep one will work? (rambling sorry) Thanks for the idea Mikey - i love your fert videos btw

a rag on a roll?? I use a pooper scooper to get all the accidents up and off the cage then go in with a car cleaning sponge on a handle (Got it from daiso for $2.80!!! ) with either 50/50 vinegar and water or diluted detol and water I generally use the vinegar though because my late girly Marley actually had some sort of chemical burn down her throat that we have no idea what caused so I try to stay away from harsh products that might hurt them if they sniff or lick a bit I missed.
