I can't have any white noise going on in the background....I can't afford to miss if any of my wee ones go into a seizure. With Fun-Go insulinomic and Captain Jack with serious cardio issues, having a noise that might disrupt that sense of hearing just can't happen. I can tell the difference between a wild random itch to a full insulinomic seizure, so I can't possibly add another white noise to prevent that. On top of that...those pipes banging against the wall with the two ferrets fighting in them...nothing would cover that racket up. My husband wakes up for that....a bomb could go off under the bed and he won't wake up, normally Mikey...maybe Finn's too laid back ;D Odin is a master poofer, Thor is a mini poof. Odin can put you out of the room ...Thor....smells bad ;D ;D No, believe me a poofing ferret is no urban legend. When Odin broke his one fang in a cage war, the vet was trying to look at his mouth (which was very sore) and he let her have it both barrels. Unfortunately, at the time I didn't have an appointment, I had just rushed him in so she was just trying to look at his mouth in the waiting room (full I might add). We cleared it for her ;D ;D ;D ;D. We then took the exam into the surgery ;D ;D and he let her have it again when she gave him a bump. She had never dealt with anything except farm ferrets and decided that he was truly armed and dangerous. Thor only seems to be able to poof once....Odin can poof many, many times resulting in us gagging and coughing. He's quite offensive....he always has the rather amused look on his face when he does it too....like...that was me really ciao

Wow poofing ferrets, I had no idea it was that bad! I'm ALMOST jealous that Finn doesn't poof... You may be right though about him being too laid back to poof. I don't know if it shows in the video, but this boy is VERY laid back, he's so calm most of the time! Even when I introduced him to the dogs he didn't poof, he just got bottlebrush tail for about 1 minute then it went away He is very sweet and calm natured. I bet if my Fiona wasn't descented she would poof, she is crazy hyper

I can remember the first time it occured. I was babysitting Odin, Thor and Loki Bears. Their ferrant had warned me that Odin and Thor were fully loaded (both intact and fully scented) but to be honest with you they were no different than any of my other guys, they didn't even smell any different (this was over Christmas ) Odin got into it with Porthos in one of the sleep boxes (of course Lady "B" was strutting her stuff and being a pain stirring things up between the boys : At that point she was the only female ferret with 11 males...she was the queen and stirred the pot often. My husband went in to break it up. The next thing I know my husband is running down the hallway screaming about being hit, he's holding Odin out as far away from himself as he could and trying to rip his shirt off. By the way...Odin was smiling I just know it. It took a few minutes before I was able to convince him that Odin wasn't a skunk...that it was a stink not an oil and the air would clear in a little while. I continued to smile (through this green haze) but really was trying hard not to make a face and choke. He really did smell bad I took him from my husband and put him back on the floor...Odin then proceeded to chuckle and wardance back down the hallway, resulting in an Odinism...which is falling over his feet and while lying on his back grabbing his back feet and wiggling down the rest of the hallway. He was really quite proud of himself. A few minutes later all was forgotten. Odin, Porthos, Attila and Thor were creating tunnels in the bed. The only thing remaining of the incident was when you opened the sleep box It needed airing ciao

Hey mikey, you should use a dropper bottle for dispensing oil. Allows you to for sure if you want only give them a single drop at a time, which is all they really need. Good idea! I don't mind them having extra oil right now though since they are shedding hehe... Finn is turning GRAY as the new lighter hairs mix in with the old darker hairs, he looks crazy! Makes his fur kind of shimmer in different angles of light, my Dad was commenting "Wow his coat looks pretty!" I wish my video camera was better quality, so you could see, his fur looks weird!

Here is Odin my darling little stink mink...unfortunately, he's starting to look his age but he's a sweety anyway Odin grabbing his feet before starting his Odinisms Here's Thor, he's in his babushka wrap after his surgery to remove a tumour from the back of his head in the first photo and this is Loki Bears with his kitty This is Loki's opinion of anyone else's opinion and this is Porthos (DIP) who was the miscreant who thought that Lady "B"s honour was at risk (actually that's her sleeping behind him) ciao

Just an update, Finn is already better at climbing after just a couple days of practice! Before the obstacle to climb was 2 grids tall, now it's 3 grids tall, and he climbs up it faster than he did 2 grids! Do they get stronger this fast, or is he more likely just more skilled? Here he is, plus Fenton wanted to be in the video too apparently:

I have been quietly monitoring this thread and the whole time wondering why you want to get him to climb? Mine climb all the time, over everything and I spend so much time putting them down off things. Rockets favourite climbing thing at the moment is me. He can't wait to be picked up, so I will be doing something like filling the dogs water dish and he'll climb up me, it makes things very hard to do. Years ago when I was a teenager I taught my dog to jump, end result we had to double the height of the fence and it also then had a horizontal bit on top at least another extra metre! So you have been warned, on your own head be it, when Finn is getting into all sorts of high up trouble!
But he is so cute trying to get his big butt over the top!!!
PS poofing is smelly but mine ususally only do it when on an adventure somewhere new but hardly ever at home and it dissipates quickly and IMO is no where near as bad as dog food farts. If I had to be trapped in a small space like a car with either a poofing ferret or a farting dog I would take the ferret every time!

I worry about having too much sound around them. They may not have good sight, but ears, nose and touch are like some sort of comic book superhero. I think too much continued noise will mess with their hearing. If it can happen to people and other animals, it can happen to ferrets and that would be a shame. As a hearing aid person, running constant noise is bad for me and them.

I've noticed that when Artie climbs into boxes, he likes to hang over the edge with his butt for ballast and hind legs braced and sniff all around inside before committing to going into the box. It seems like it would be good core and hind leg exercise. Is it as good as the 'follow the treat' exercise. Teddy is in such better shape than Artie that Artie gets tired and can't keep up, so he doesn't play with Teddy as much as Teddy would like to. I will set up some tubes and other obstacles so that he can get stronger and Teddy can maintain. And yes, 0400 is ferret happy hour here too.
