I might (more than likely, as in definetaly ) be getting Flower a sister but the ferret I probably will be taking is on kibble. How do I take her and switch her to raw with out giving FLower the kibble? I dont want to take the new ferrets kibble away until I know she will eat the raw soup, but I do not want Flower to have kibble again, she has been doing so good with her eating her raw any advide or tips?

It really depends on how much you know of the new ferret's background. The biggest risk is insulinoma. Sometimes it can be borderline, and will come out if food is held for any real length of time. Your best bet would be to cage them separately at night, and if you are home during the day, keep giving puree soup every 2-3 hours, hand fed.

Well I have work and school during the day so I'm not really home during the day. I guess I will have to get a second cage and keep them seperate I think the new ferret is youngish, maybe 2-2.5ish?? I have to double check. She is a path valley if that means anything. She has been eating zupreem grain free for like the past yr. But I have them switching their Ferrets to EVO so that will help me since that is the only kind of kibble I will feed that I have easy access to. She is very healthy looking and has a nice thick fluffy coat

Congratulations on your newest possible addition. You will be posting pictures, yes?? I agree with Sherry...a ferret, especially a farm ferret, should probably not go for great lengths of time without food. This would only be temporary until you were comfortable that she was eating on her own. It's worth the peace of mind ciao

The longest I'd withhold good, not knowing the background of an adult ferret, is 2-3 hours max. She can still work up an appetite with that. But keep her with her raw fed friend at all other times(when you aren't giving her kibble, or during the nighttime). She will pick up on the raw feeding faster that way. And they will still bond even if separated for part of the day

Of course there will be tons of pictures!! Lol. Her story is that about a year ago (maybe not quite a year..) my friends small animal rescue was contacted by a boy who really couldn't provide the care/time that this ferret really required. Not that she wasn't cared for but the kid was realizing how much care and attention they required. But he begged her not to rehome her and to let her live at her rescue which she agreed to even tho she didn't want another resident ferret because she had her two Ferrets. Well I have loved this ferret since I met her but knew that I already had so many animals so I kept my distance from her lol but now that I already have one ferret I might as well have two lol. O did I mention that the new Ferrets name is Vegetables? Lol which I Love! Her first owner was a Vegan lol and he always wonder why she wouldn't eat the vegetable sticks he gave to her as treats lol . So, since me and my friend are close so she is comfortable letting me take her since she trust I will give her the most optimum care I can proves. Got a lil bit off topic there lol ok well I can set up a wire dog crate as a temporary home til I'm confident she will eat soupies on her own and save up and get them a nice big cage to share... And soon it will be Flower and Vegetables lol

Thank heavens she didn't eat the vegetable sticks Talk about a major blockage! Kind of neat having two obligate carnivores named Flower and Vegetable ;D

^^^ If you're getting "Vegeta" from DBZ I so wanted a fat little boy to name Gotanks before I ever got a ferret. But instead Soul got named after a different anime I'm a nerd... On Topic: The only way I can think of would be to keep them/food separated until she gets switched. I dunno what kinda cage you have, but maybe it's possible to block off the cage so they are still separate rather than spending money on a new one you won't use for long.

I am going to see if I make up some soupies if I can't convice vegatables owner to start the switch for me. I have almost got her convinced to switch her own 2 Ferrets, so if she gets vegatables started she can see what it is like and see if she can handle it for her own...

If you can get her to do it, that would be great! We've had a number of vegans on the forum here and at the old one in particular. They may have made a "moral" decision for themselves, but still understood that their ferrets were obligate carnivores
