I think I read on a thread but forgot which one, that squash baby food could be used as a subsitute for pumkin in their diet? Is that the only subsitute?

Squash, lettuce(frozen and pureed), Basically anything that isn't sweet or starchy. Pumpkin, butternut squah, and lettuce are better simply because they have fewer natural sugars.

Is there anything a little less vegetably that can be used? Even though pumpkin isn't digested I'm still very skeptical that a lot of the vegetable compounds aren't still going into their blood so I'm very reluctant to use it.

Well technically pumpkin itself is a substitute. The truly natural and best source of fiber is fur, hide, etc. off of a whole prey animal

Lol I know that it takes the place of fur , I was just wondering in case I can't find plain canned pumkin at the grocery store what the back up would be. Now that thanksgiving is over it might be harder to find

If you don't have access to canned pure pumpkin can you not just get some pumpkin and boil it and blend it yourself? That's what I do and then I freeze it into ice cube trays because I don't have access to canned pumpkin over here at all

Yes, you can...fresh is better really. I found that cutting it into slices (if it's large) or just cutting it in half, seeding it and putting it on a cookie sheet in the oven works very well. There's a lot less water and the whole pumpkin meat is smoother and easier to put in small containers (or ice cube trays) ciao
