;D Hey new forum! I was on the old forum a looong time ago and I missed you guys so here I am again!
I live in Ontario and have 2 fuzzbutts. One is a sable named Kahlua who is over 4 years old. I adopted him from a woman who I found on kijiji.com. Ive had a lot of problems with him in and out of the vets and emergency clinic since day one. I try and make his life as full filling as possible 'cuz I have no idea when he will pass- He has a blockage in his stomach and the surgery will cost me like $1000 and up... LOL and I am a college student mind you!
My other fuzzy is albino and he is 2 years old now. Very big boy haha I named him Malibu. Always has lots of energy and always dooking when playing. He's a marshell ferret. I take him everywhere I go. He's my wittle babes <3 I dont take Kahlua everywhere for I am affraid he will catch a cold easily.. It's chilly here!
Hope to chat with you all soon.

Hi, and welcome! It must have been a while ago on the old forum, I don't recall you ;D Beautiful babies! With your little one with the blockage- what did the vet say about it? Normally it's a matter of hours to a couple of days when they pass from that!

Hi and welcome on board I think I remember you...must have been awhile, though. What type of blockage does Kahlua have....I would think that even with a floating blockage he would be deathly ill? Have you shopped around for a vet? Some are cheaper than others. I've found huge ranges in prices, even within a 2 hr drive. Please feel free to prowl and read through the site. It's very similar to the old one, even some of the same people ciao

Thanks guys :3 Kahlua has gotten x-rays done in the emergency clinic and the blockage looks like a small ring/ear ring. The vet said it would cost over $1000 to get it out..

You do realize that you will have to make a decision soon Your little one will need either the surgery or you will have to make the decision to end her life A blockage is a horrible death for a wee one. I don't know where you are but I would be shopping around to see if you can find a vet who will do the surgery cheaper. I know that for me to have a reconstructive surgery for wee Minion was going to cost me $1800 for one vet and $300 for another...big differences here. I don't live in the city, these were country vets, that means big time travel but for the vet that I've found it's worth every bit of the travel. ciao ciao

Heather is right, unfortunately Once it starts blocking her up, it will go from bad to terrible pretty quickly Our Lucrezia was fine in the morning at 8am, and when we got back at 3pm, she was simply curled up, refusing food and water, treats, anything. We were very lucky in that it was foam, and she was finally able to pass it with a lot of pumpkin and lax. But with your little one, no way can she pass that. I really hate to even suggest it, but are there any shelters/rescue groups nearby that you could turn her in to? Or even check with your vet about either payment plans, or a plan for credit for the vet- some companies in Canada will do that. And it's far less painful for her than just waiting for it to happen.

Thanks for your opinion guys. Since I first got Kahlua he was terribly sick and since he has been with me he has gotten 90% better.

Are they SURE it's a blockage? That just seems so odd! I wonder if the xray was misread?

I have the x-ray pics I can post once I get connection on my own computer. They diagnosed him last winter. I dont know if he still has the blockage. As of now he is happy and healthy and thats my main goal for him. I dont think Kahlua was cared for properly by his previous owner much..

Is there any chance he pooped out the earring already?
Would it possibly be a good idea to have a follow-up x-ray to see if it's still in there, and if it is, put him on a regimen of daily pumpkin and vaseline to try and make him pass it, or would that just risk moving it from his stomach to a more deadly location?

Pictures of the xray would be good. I'm not saying he didn't have it, or hasn't passed it already, but...I've personally never heard of a floating blockage that has lasted that long
