gobble gobble...happy holidays ;D My mom has yet to attack our bird for tomorrow. Not sure what all is left in their for parts (it's a locally-raised organic bird, no preservatives or growth hormones etc), but I was wondering if I should ask my mother to hold out any of the parts..the gizzards or anything like that. Right now the kids have Epigen90 kibble available at all times and twice a day they get soupies of ground-up Epigen90, Arch 1, and pumpkin. On Friday I am going to my local pet store to pick up my order of Stella & Chewys freeze dried ;D So -- anything I should ask her to hold out for me? And should I ask her to cook it, or leave it uncooked? Thanks -- happy holidays folks

I feed my ferrets the turkey giblets, they are often inside the bird in a plastic bag, but yours might still be attached. Giblets include the heart, liver, gizzard, kidney. I also give them the neck.
UNCOOKED for all. Especially the neck (bone-in). Cooking changes the nutritional value of meats and makes bones dangerous.

Ok. I was going to guess uncooked, but am never sure. Would any parts be better than others for ferts who have limited experience with such things? I will tell my mom to hold on to everything for now! I am excited

The gizzard is probably your best bet for ferrets new to raw. The heart and organs have strong tastes and if your ferret has never had them before, she might not like them. The turkey neck takes a lot of chewing and even some pro raw eaters can't handle the chewiness and the thick bones. You can always cut the meat so its hanging off and smash the bone. Actually the easiest thing to get her to eat would be plain turkey meat. If the turkey is unseasoned, you could see if you can persuade your mom to cut you off a little bit of raw meat before cooking it.

She said she will save me some raw meat Such a good gran-farrent! How should I present these goodies to the kids? They haven't had any sort of fresh raw before, I'm excited

You could offer them sliced in small bits as is, you could bread them with a bit of their favourite kibbles crushed up. You could turn the little pieces into their soupy too. Any are usable ideas ciao

We also have the liver from the turkey (since we buy our turkey locally and organic I think we get a few more organs than normal). A little bit of liver okay?

(my mom rocks btw -- she set aside all of the innards and neck and such for the furkids. anything the fuzzbabes don't eat she cooks up for the dogs and cat )

The dog and cat also benefit from raw. But if your mom insists on cooking it make sure not to cook the neck since it has bones.

My poor Sonny. He did not get to enjoy the turkey gizzard, heart, liver or neck because Bud ate it all!

Bud is our 6 year old border collie and Sonnys older brother. They like to antagonize eachother. Sonny calls him "Pig-Dog."
