Cold

So, it seems at least 2 of my ferrets has caught a cold. Some liquidy stools (just a bit) and slightly yellow, and lots of sneezing.
They lick their nose before I can see if they sneezed anything out, but with the licking I assume they are.
I'm guessing its a cold.
Obviously antibiotics, but can they heal themselves and is there anything else I can do to help them?

If they start getting congested, some time in a steamy bathroom helps loosen things up. As does warm soup. You might wind up feeding that anyway, since some don't want to eat when ill. Some I know use something called ferret RX. It's a Marshall's product, but supposed to work. I'm not familiar with it personally. Good luck!

Also, just a note that ferrets supposedly cannot get the rhino virus (cold) but are very susceptible to other upper respiratory infections. Those upper respiratory infections can become pneumonia and in ferrets this is a silent disease (meaning that you won't be able to hear it through a stethoscope) It is usually only confirmed by an xray. So, if your wee ones are congested, lethargic, refusing food and possibly running a temp (a ferret normal temp is about 102) please take them to the vet. Most infections will clear themselves up within a week to 10 days (same as us) with you treating the outward symptoms. If you think that your wee one is in distress don't hesitate to take them to the vet. ciao

Well, I've kept on eye on the sick ones. Nobody has leaky noses or seem lethargic. They all are eating well and drinking fine too. The only thing is that they were sneezing like crazy and their poops were very runny. Sneezes have subsided recently and the poops are taking form again. I'll definitely keep your suggestions in mind for future illnesses (hopefully there won't be too many.
