When you first graduate to spoon feeding following the finger feeding, your ferret is frequently going to try to run off after a few licks ;D If you are gentle, and you persist, you'll be surprised at just how much you can coax them to eat! Those two words are key- GENTLE and PERSISTANT. Continue to use a very calming voice with him while doing this, as it helps them to keep from stressing. You'll recognize when they've simply had enough. They'll stop taking licks from the spoon, other than maybe one, and then keep trying to get away. Let them go, and try again later. Here's my poor Boris being convinced he should eat elk:

I used to do this with my dog (now 16) when I started feeding her raw. I thought it was the cutest thing in the world, my little princess. I hope it will work with my fuzzbutts!

Ferrets are most definitely spoiled around here. I worry more about feeding them then I did my own children. The key to getting a finicky ferret who has already imprinted on their kibble really is all about patience, persistence and coaxing. They simply don't recognize new foods as food once they are older. Sherry's original post is a very good one and she has so much experience, anytime she says something then you can trust her guidance. She's our leader and the founder of this Forum so I can't imagine what we would do without her.

I find it funny that I had to teach them meat was food yet I'm constantly confiscating things I never thought they would eat, like blankets, plastic, and stuffies that don't even have flavor!

I had to teach Jasper that raw and whole prey was food when I first got him but my others took to raw and whole prey straight away, all except Jasper are willing to try new foods so if I need to alter something in my fuzzies' diet then it's easy, I recently altered Saturday's menu from yellowfin fillet to mackerel which took a few seconds
