Well, I'm super excited, and I posed on Facebook about being excited and not being able to wait to get my little fuzzies. A few of my friend asked if they could come see them/ me take them to their house, aftet I get them... I do not feel comfortable or safe with allowing a vast majority of my "friends' to be around the fuzzies after I get them.
Is it wrong that I feel this way, or is it normal/good?

No that is normal atleast I think. I don't allow some of my family near the ferrets. I don't trust them to watch where they are walking and not step on them. Heck even my partner accidentally let one of the ferrets outside when letting the dogs out. Luckily we found him in the neighbors yard about an hour later.

Most of us don`t let other people handle or see our ferrets so no it`s not wrong I would definitely advise against bringing your ferrets to other people`s houses (too many dangers from not being ferret proofed) but I would also hold off on bringing any friends over to see your ferrets until they`ve gotten a chance to settle in and get to know you first. Kits (I assume you are getting younger ones?) can be VERY nippy until they are trained and the last thing you want is someone getting bitten and pressing charges. This is why you should never let strangers pet your ferrets heads or hold them (only let them pet the back while you are holding the ferret securely). But, I honestly `don`t trust any of my friends not to get bitten either, so if someone really wants to see them, I hold them and let them look or pet the back. Only my one friend is allowed to handle them because they know him and he`s understanding when Olivia tries to eat him ;D

I'm actually rescuing two Hobs, from a Ferret refuge in Indiana, which is only about 2-3 hours away. The only other person I trust, besides myself, is my Boyfriend, but that's because he has our hamsters at his house, and he checks with me first to make sure what he wants to do would be safe. He will also be around after I get the hobs. To be technical, he is driving me to go get them in a few weeks. haha. As I said though, I don't really trust anyone around them and only select people wil be able to pet them, and I will deffinately be holding them at that time.

That`s awesome Lucky boys getting a new home In my opinion, having someone else who is able to handle your ferrets is a good thing. In case you need someone to care for them if you go away, can`t, etc. So if your boyfriend is comfortable with them, definitely get them used to him as well as you

That's a great point and until I move again, he offered to take them, since I really want them and I am doing so much research The best part, is I will see them alot until the time I move, so I really hope they become comfortable with me. I know it's probably not too smart to move them like that, but I fell in love with the little fuzzies, and they've been in the refuge for most of their lives.

Hi no your not wrong to feel that way your actually protecting your fuzzies ! ( people can carry all sorts of viruses on there clothing /shoes without even knowing it !) plus they will need time to adjust to a new home and owners having strangers picking them up and putting them down will over whelm them and stress them out ( and stress can lead to a number of problems ulcers refusing to eat ect ) I have had ferrets for over 42 years and the only people who go near them or handle them are me or my son ( or my neighbour who feeds and cleans them for me while I am judging shows in other countries ) so no your not strange for feeling this way your simply in sensible momma mode ! good luck with your babies and god bless you for giving them a forever home take care bye for now Bev

Bev, I'm glad it's not weird, I figured it was a maternal- type instinct, I just didn't know if it was being too protective or not. Thank youso mch for that information, I will definately make sure that I am very careful, so they don't become stressed.

No one handles my ferrets unless it's one of the two I can absolutely trust not to bite, and those cases are few and far between! If we have company over, the ferrets are in the cage. I'd hate to be in the position of never speaking with a good friend if they happened to either step on one of the ferrets, or accidently let them out of the house! And Bev is right- ferrets can catch the human influenza virus(amongst a couple others). Most people don't realize that if they have what they think is a cold might actually be a very mild version of the flu!
