Wondering if anyone has/has ever had one of these. I currently have a FN142 and am looking into buying a different cage. Trinity is a horrible bar rattler and now Meeko has started doing it too. I have enough troubles sleeping at night without them rattling the bars every few hours because they want to play. The spacing between the bars on Martin's cages looks like it might be to small for them to get their mouth around.. would that be accurate? www.martinscages.com/products/cages/ferret/I'm not really a fan of the super small doors but a ton of people have said you can call them up and custom order a cage with larger doors so I would definitely do that.

I have a couple of those...they're sitting in the garage. You haven't heard noise until you've heard the wee ones bouncing on the metal floors. The ramps are too narrow and the cages are a nightmare to clean. The doors are too small to get a decent sized litter box into the cage without dumping it's contents and if you manage to get one in, then you can't clean it. Just my experiences. I've got a single, a double and a three level (don't even talk to me about the nightmare about trying to put hammie in that one ). ciao

Martin's were probably the most widely used ferret cage before the FN's came out. I know quite a few people who prefer them over the FN. In some ways, the big doors suck - you can't attach hammocks to doors that will be opened. I beleive some of the Marin's cages may have a plastic/rubbery coating, which would be bad for ferrets that like to eat things. I can't recall for sure, but I beleive that th uncoated (without rubbery/plastic coating) Martin's cages may be made of galvanized steel? I beleive that the galvanized steel may be a potential source for zinc for cage chewers. Ferrets are definitely suceptible to zinc toxicity, which can kill them. I do not know how much cage chewing may be required for zinc toxicity to affect ferrets. I beleive that most (perhaps even ALL) cases of zinc toxitiy have resulted from using galvanized feeding/drinking pans. This is something you may want to look into before puchasing a new cage. -jennifer

You might take a look at Quality Cages. They're well made and heavier than Martin's. I've got a Martin's which I have no problem with. Quality's pricier than Martin's.

They probably just need an extra hour of playtime ;-) Trinity is just a spoiled little princess! They are only caged at night, but she feels this is a travesty and wants to make sure the entire world knows it. Also, she's my "special" ferret.. her sleeping patterns are completely different from my others. Dexy could sleep for 16 hrs straight if let her. Trinity sleeps for an hour or two, gets up, sleeps for an hour or two, gets up, sleeps for an hour or two, gets up.. etc.

If I wasn't using a FN, I would go with the Martins. These are the only cages our shelter had before the FN and at the time they were the best. The cages she had from Martin were nice and roomy and could easily fit litter boxs in them (Matins is awesome and will make doors ect larger if you request it! They will even add extra doors any where you want or need them all you got to do is ask.)
And although the bar space is smaller then a FN, they sooo can rattle them too! Ferrets easily can get a grip on them as well.
Yes Martins sells some that are galvanized but any of their cages also come pvc coated, which is what you want.
The bottom floor pans are made of a hard plastic, not rubber or metal. And the ferrets dont chew through the plastic lol Now the shelfs, other levels, and ramps are wire, so they need to be covered.
If your ever looking for awesome travel cages by far they are best hands down. I travel all the time through out the year (I show my ferrets all over), and by far they have been the best! I use the small collapsible ones, they fit perfect in the back seat of the car and are just right for the ferret shows.
