Definitely you should be on skype! For moral reassurance if nothing else. Anyone who's in the room can pull you in. So, download skype(it's free), then check out the skype thread in chat for user names. Friend a few people on there, and someone will likely be up and pull you into the room.

Hopefully just a bladder infection. My old whippet did this, once...her pee was pure, dark red bladder infection).

Last October my Jack ended up with a severe blockage from bladder stones. He was perfectly fine, alert and peeing in the morning and when I got home from work (~12 hours) he was very uncomfortable. Just sitting at the vets for an hour he progressed from bad to a point where he was so uncomfortable he couldn't sit still but was too weak to really move. I really thought I was gong to lose him. Jack is fine now but his surgery cost $1250. I had no warning signs of him being sick but the first one the vet said was blood in the urine. You need to get a urinalysis done ASAP. Infections cause the urine to be more acidic which results in precipitation of crystals which leads to stones.

Thank you. Just letting you guys know, we made it through the night. Vet opens soon. Taking Riley in then. They called me last night about an hour after my first call to check on Riley. They said they will test for a UTI first. Since I slept some last night, I couldn't watch her (obviously). So I'm not sure if she is using the restroom or not. She is still pretty alert though. So here's to hoping!

That's fantastic, and thanks for the update! Fingers crossed it's something that can be treated with antibiotics quickly. It's great that she's still pretty alert

Well, that was....strange. So the vet asked to keep her an hour so they could sedate her for Radiographs and a urinalysis (Riley bites). So they did 2 views of a radiograph looking for stones, as well as checked her urine. We went ahead and had them do a full blood work up too. ...Everything is fine. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad. But the vet had NO explanation. She said if Riley were male then it could be Adrenal causing the prostate to enlarge. But she's a female...so sheh as no explanation unless when Riley was fixed maybe an ovary or some other part was accidentally left. The vet said that the only thing that could explain is something totally wacky (like her urethra shriveling up for some crazy reason), or the above (spaying gone wrong). She said to not worry and just keep an eye on her pees for awhile. If it happens again she gave me a syringe with a cap to suck it up in and take to the vet to analyze. Her weight is perfect, no hair loss, gums are healthy pink, everything on bloodwork came back perfect, urine was clear, scans showed nothing at all. So what the h*ll? Again, so grateful she's okay, but obviously something was wrong or she wouldn't have peed red! Vet visit made me worry more.

Has she taken a tumble lately? Some traumas can cause blood in the urine. I think it would have to be a pretty big fall though. I don't care for your Vet's recommendation to just wait it out. What did they test for with the urinalysis? Proteins as well as pH and white blood cells? Jack's bladder stones were cystein stones and not the result of an infection - he's just predisposed to secrete an abundance of this amino acid. If she just has crystals now - which would cause blood if they are irritating the urethra - i don't think they would show up on an xray. Do you have tile floors anywhere in your house? After Jack's surgery (before solidifying his raw diet) if he peed on my ceramic tiles I could see the urine crystallize. I know it's kind of gross but it may be a good piece of evidence to present to your vet. I really don't think ignoring blood in her urine is sound advice. I don't know if your vet will (or has the right equipment) but a cystoscopy is another diagnostic option - they could at least detect trauma. I wish I had more info to share but jack skipped right to exploratory surgery.

Humm I agree with others on here for to of passed blood something has gone on I am wondering if she has passed a stone Its odd for it to suddenly stop with no trace of any infection or anything after passing a dark concentration of blood stress can cause blood in urine but this is more common in cats than ferrets I would defiantly keep any eye on it incase there is a re-occurrence take care bye for now Bev

Well she has not peed any blood since last night. It's been normal.
She has not had any falls that I am aware of and she can't fall far in the cage. She's afraid of heights so she rarely jumps off a couch even.
For the urinalysis I believe they only tested for a UTI. Then the blood work was general blood work (kidney function, blood cells, glucose, etc.). The radiographs were to see if she had bladder stones and there wasn't anything there.
They advised me to get some white paper litter instead of the Marshalls which is a dark grey so I could see if she has red pees in the future.
I also wonder if perhaps she did have a bladder stone but passed it last night. We didn't see anything when cleaning the messes up, but who knows. We could have thought it was something that was on the floor and don't remember it now.
She's still pretty sedated so she hasn't been up at all since the vet this morning. Poor girl. I'll be watching her closely for awhile though the pee she gave to the vet was clean of blood or anything else.

She could have passed a stone you would never have seen it. It would be like a grain of sand. Most people think of stones but often is looks more like sand (still nothing to sneer at though) I agree with Bev though, I would have thought that there would be some trace. I'm glad that she's feeling better and you're feeling better (relief is a wonderful thing). I, too, would be watching her closely. Ferrets you've got to love them, they drive you crazy with their health issues ciao
