Not just that, but it can be really easy for the vet to "botch" it. Zeus' descenting when he was a kit(he was a farm ferret and came that way ) has caused him to not have quite as much control over his bowels as the other ferrets have. The best both we and our vet can figure out is maybe a nerve was damaged at this time.

Poor wee one. They're so tiny, I can't even imagine doing that type of fine surgery. It's so unnecessary ciao

What about using the des. Implant to chemically alter them?

I believe, that this person is in southern ON, it takes 3 weeks to ship a des lorin implant here. Now, depending where they are, my vet has one deslorin implant that's available as she ordered in 5 implants and I used 4 of those implants. That would certainly work if one of the hobs is much farther advanced in season than the other. ciao

Also, here in Southern Ontario, what is the average amount of a neuter ?

I haven't got the cost for my des implants yet, the vet was figuring about $80 to $90 but that's not firmed up yet. Odin was altered about 4 yrs ago (I can't believe it was that long ago, that makes him almost 9 yrs old OMG)....it cost me about $280 or so...under $300. ciao

It's worth pointing out the Deslorelin implant isn't a one time thing. It may be cheaper than a neuter initially but in the long run it costs more. So if cost is your main concern, I'd go with the neuter. Not that the implant doesn't have it's benefits.

Cost isn't the big thing, I just thought it was an official thing, thanks for pointing that out.

I just pm'd you with the information. The thing is the des might give you some breathing room to allow you to alter one ferret and then with the des it would give you enough time to alter the other ferret next year. The length of time that a des implant is good for is still unknown and appears to change from one ferret to the next. From the literature that I've read it's good for 9 to 18 months and for some even longer. It's that type of unknown that makes the des implant a difficult tool for those hoping to breed their ferret at a later date. ciao

Thanks Heather !
They are mean little buggers. I went to grab them to put them back in their cage & they tried to spin around and bite me. They are mean with food too.
They aren't no where as sweet as Smoky. It's hard to know when to touch them & when not too. They are unpredictable. :/

They are learning how to play you. They make a bite at you, and get a reaction. And they'll keep on doing it. Frankly, I'd start the time outs now rather than later.

Lucrezia used to spend more time in time outs than anywhere else when she was little Bite. Into the carrier. 3 min. later come out. Immediately bite in revenge. BACK into the carrier. Out. Bite. Back YET again. Continue ad nauseum She finally did associate the biting with the time outs, but it took a while ;D
