no teeth grinding? watery eyes? is he getting ready to blow his coat? my ferrets always get skinny and wiry when they blow their coats. one of my ferts lost weight suddenly despite eating and drinking normally. and then developed intermittent diarrhea. took a while to figure it out with the vet. in the end it turned out to be intestinal lymphoma. i'm not saying that he has this. just an example of "it could be anything." my adrenal ferrets have become skinny like that and have lost muscle mass when the meds have worn off or stopped working. by the way, ferrets can get worms and parasites. i have seen ferrets with coccida and ringworm (or hookworm-- it has been so long i forget.) so i would have his stool tested. how is his fur quality? is it soft and shiny or dry and brittle? the condition of the whiskers to me is usually indicative that something is wrong. they should be long and silky. i hate to suggest a cause because i am not a vet and weight loss can be so many things. it could be nothing. i've had ferrets get skinny for no reason at all and then they gain their weight back. but i would take him in for a full check up.

No, he has no tooth grinding, or watery eyes. And I've had him since he was 13 weeks old. He doesn't blow his coat. He's a sable. And yes, his coat has become less shiny, and more brittle. He's been having problems for the last 3-4 months now, so untreated lymphoma should be extracting more of a price than he's been paying. Still has a reasonably good appetite, energy, but not what it should be. His whiskers are shorter than his brothers, but no worse than my other adrenals. Not sure about where the melatonin comes from , but according to the vet- it should hopefully last about a year.
