Hi, I'm new to the world of ferrets & though I don't have one now I'm hopeful for my future. I'm currently doing my research on ferrets I've checked out some online sites & I'm currently reading Ferrets for Dummies V.2 as it's come highlyrecommended. I have 2 cats & a rabbit. I live in California but will be moving to Arkansas & living w/my sister. I hope to learn about a raw diet & if my ferret will get along w/her & my animals. I know you have to be careful around cats & dogs but she has a hedgehog as well as a Doxi. I'm hoping to find out if anyone knows how hedgehogs & ferrets get along. When my sister got her hedge the lady said that they don't get along w/other hedges but he seems to get along w/the dog.

Hi, and welcome Please feel free to browse, post, ask questions, join the conversations, etc! Since you are interested in a raw diet, check out the nutrition section. As for the hedgie and the ferrets, I'd be keeping them apart for safety's sake. You wouldn't want the hedge getting hurt even accidently by the fuzz, and some can have a very strong prey drive. My smallest even thinks she can hunt my cats And no- I don't live feed. She found she could get a reaction from them by biting them, so now she goes for the soft underbelly the brat.

Welcome! Congrats on deciding to do your research first! As for your other pets: cats and ferrets will get along on occasion, it just caries by individual; hedgehogs and ferrets are not a safe combo; rabbits and ferrets are definitely not safe together; and ferrets and the doxi again depends on the individuals but I would NEVER leave them without supervision even if you think they are great buddies.

Thanks for the welcome & the advice on the hedgies! I would never leave animals w/o proper supervision. I worked in a kennel for 6yrs & have taken care of 2 ferrets there and some ferrets for my friend (sadly no longer in contact) but I know owning one is a lot different so I'm glad I was recommended on facebook here. My cats are super mellow but I'll be sure to watch them.

Hi and welcome on board. Thank you so much for doing your research first. I really wish more would do just that. I researched for about a year and hadn't finished in anyway when I had a wee little girl dumped in my lap. Please feel free to prowl, read through the threads and various sections. There is a ton of information here, you may want to pay close attention to the stickies that are at the beginning of each section. There is also some recommended reading materials too. Everyone here is friendly and there are a wide variety of experienced people on board and from a lot of different places too. We've got vet techs, students, breeders, rescues and shelters....so you've got a ton of very important information at your fingertips.... all you need to do is ask I hope that you will be an active participant (the finest way to learn) and I will be seeing you around ciao
