So with Koda's limited diet, right now the boys are not getting the optimal amount of organ. Most of the organs I have access to are chicken or beef - both of which he seems to be sensitive to (beef especially!). So, in lieu of organs (and hearts!), I am wondering if there are any vitamin supplements I can/should be using? They do get freeze dried on occasion, but not enough to make up the difference (it is expensive!) lol and several of the commercial ground mixes I use have liver and such, but again the rest of their diet is still not balanced right now leading to an overall imbalance. So, any suggestions anyone? They are doing really well right now, but I do not want them to end up with any vitamin deficiencies. Thoughts or ideas?

Can you get pork? You can use cod liver oil...don't like to supplement that way but you can do it. ciao

Why don't you like cod liver oil? Are there bad long-term effects? I can get pork meat, but not prok organ. The only pork organ I can get is the OCCASIONAL kidney. And more than just a little bit of that leads to dark mucousy poopies. I always keep an eye out for other organs, but haven't been lucky enough to find any pork organ or heart yet. What about just a vitamin powder of some sort that I can just mix into the food?

I just don't like it because it's concentrated and a bit harder to control. Dark tarry poops are all about it when you feed organs, it's not a bad thing. ciao

Kat, I can't remember if you have a raw feeding pet store near you? If you do, they might be able to order in turkey hearts and livers for you. you'd likely have to buy it by the case(10-25 lbs), but it might be one thing to look at.

What about supplementing for other organs if they aren't available? Like kidney, spleen, etc. Is there any supplement for that?

i have no idea where you are located.
can you ask the butcher at the supermarket if he/she can order in things like lamb or goat organs?? do you have a super walmart or a target greatland near you? both carry meats and you should be able to get what's needed at either place - may have to ask the dept head to specifically order things tho.
also, look around your area (even if you have to go outward 40+ miles) for a regular butcher shop as they will most likely be able to order in specific items for you. middle eastern butchers will definitely be willing to order organs; jewish butchers regardless of whether they're kosher or not won't want do organs usually.
perdue brand cornish game hens usually have the neck, liver & gizzard inside the cavity, so, if you can find them, that would solve the liver issue. they're different enough from regular chicken to not usually cause issue even if chicken allergy is present. you can try it and see if it's workable for your little one.
nupro powder has dessicated (dried) liver in it - also has other things, notably chicken, in it, so that one may not be usable for you.
if beef items are a problem, try veal. yes, i know veal is baby beef...sometimes the younger stuff is do-able when the older animal isn't. worth a try!

Thanks for the great input guys! Sherry, I don't know why I didn't think of that! I will ask the store owner of Paw Pricne (where I get commercial ground) if she can order other organs for me! Jackie I second that question! Supplements for organs other than liver? Anyone? Like maybe jsut a multivitamin powder given a few times a week? i have no idea where you are located.

I thought about trying veal, but I figured that being even more rich than beef, it might be worse? They do carry veal liver here... Sadly, I can't really "order" meats here, and the store selections are very limited. :/ I will have to check out Wal Mart though, I jsut am hesitat because I feel like I have never really trusted WalMArt as a food source for some reason. So it never occured to me to look there. lol Right now as it stands, any meat fed too often wil cause Koda to start acting up. Pork is startingto become the primary protein to replace chicken though, but I need more bones and organs. (Turkey neck!) He LOVES chicken hearts, but those make his poops dark as well. Sherry, the dark poops aren't the concern so much as the mucous content of the dark poops... they get all mucousy.
