Hello all! my name is Emily, and while I don't have a ferret yet, I plan to in the new year and I'm now in the 'research phase'. That's why I joined this forum, there seems to be a lot of ferret experience built up amongst everyone here and I can't wait to learn it all!

Hi and welcome on board.....congratulations and thank you for doing your research. Feel free to prowl around, people here are friendly and appreciate people who do their homework (there are too many of us on board who have wee ones in their household that have been the result of an impulse buy) Read through the various threads, ask questions about anything you feel confused about or don't understand. Ferrets are a joy to have but they come with a huge price (and I"m not talking about their initial price tag) They require a lot of care and nurturing, it's not about buying a cage and watching them play in it (the unfortunate mistake of many). They're smart, manipulative, hyper, loving and unfortunately vets just see dollar signs when you walk through the door. I strongly suggest as part of your research to find a ferret knowledgeable vet before you get a ferret. Just because you have a fantastic vet doesn't mean that they will deal with or even know how to deal with ferrets. Anyway, have fun, participate in the discussions (it's a great way to learn). Good luck ciao

Hi, and welcome As the others have said already- thank you for doing your research first! While it doesn't always prepare you for everything, it can certainly make a HUGE difference in just how steep that learning curve will be!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I've done some research already, but most of the things I've read are general facts and I know things are going to vary from ferret to ferret. So I'm eager to see what actual ferret owners have to say. I've seen a lot of posts and youtube comments on particularly sweet videos saying "OMG so cute! I'm getting a ferret in 2 weeks, what do they eat?!?!" and all could think is...poor ferret!
