I am exploring ways to make a portable and adjustable gate (for different width human doors) that will keep the ferts on one side for playtime and the dogs on the other which a human can easily step over.
I have tried a set of glass fireplace doors which are heavy but not tension mounted which I have fastened to each other with binder clips. Not a perfect solution by any means.
What have you created or found for purchase? All the regular baby gates which I have located would be easy for the ferts to climb over.
Thanks, Natalie

I have the same one Sherry's got, and it keeps my four at bay The only problem with it is fitting smaller doors, like bathroom doors. I think it's minimum is 26", and my bathroom door is 24" It works just fine for normal sized doors, like bedroom doors, though.

I think I've seen someone use plexi glass or something of the sort and use a 'noodle pool toy' and cut it down one side and place it over the top for protection. Ill try and find a picture. I haven't tried it though so I don't know how well it would work.

Thanks, everyone! I'm off to Home Depot today to get the safety1st gate which looks like it will do most everything I want.

Before you leave them with only the gate, and no supervision, this is what CAN happen if they are determined enough:
As I'd originally said, when it's an area where I can't directly supervise, I also use that piece of thin plywood clamped to the gate to prevent him from getting over!

What determination Boris showed in the video! I stand warned. It looks like Boris finally hooked the support for the gate and got a toe hold.

grimsqueaker you can get plexiglass cut( you decide the hight and width ) a couple of pieces of wood screwed onto the side of the door with a groove cut into them allow you to drop it into place or if you have a clever husband you can get him to drill the plexi glass and fit you a couple hinges and simply screw in place so it can be opened in over pushing the fuzz into the room not giving them an easy escape lol ( often diy stores will drill it for you and give you the correct hinges for plexi glass) hope this helps take care bye for now Bev aka crazy lady

The Safety 1st gate is wonderful: much easier to use than the old style wooden ones with the bar you had to adjust and press down on. This is great for temporary uses, and I like the idea of plexiglass and strips on the door frame for more permanent setups.
Thanks for all the ideas,
Natalie

I have two baby gates, I will have to check the name of the better of my two because I can't remember it off the top of my head but it resembles/is made a lot like this one: www.walmart.com/ip/North-States-Top-Notch-Plastic-Gate/8251430only its got an ajustable width and the door swings open and locks closed/into place the other one I have is this one: www.walmart.com/ip/Evenflo-Position-Lock-Tall-Gate/13264745It is kinda crappy. I mean, it would be great except the fact that it doesn't work well if you have moulding on your walls- in my apartment there is moulding so it really doesnt work well.. I open it wider than the door frame and lean it behind the door frame then put a picture frame with a plastic cover infront of it/ontop of the moulding and use two kitchen chairs to hold it in place. It works well that way + the plastic keeps them from being able to climb it. We put a gate at each entrance to the kitchen so they don't get in.. Mojito and Kahlua are barely aloud outside the ferret room because they will scale the plastic gate and it becomes their only goal so they stop even playing to just scale the gate. Morgan is more interested in other things in the apartment so I dont have to worry about him trying to climb it and SoCo doesnt um... understand to climb it i guess? He sits at the bottom and scratches the carpet " I will try to take pics to explain better when I get home
