Hello, my name is DM and I am almost 30. I owned two Ferrets when I was a teenager and now over 10 years later, it's time to get a new Ferret.
I am going to adopt a 10 week old Ferret from Quantum Leap Ferrets in Oklahoma sometime in the next two months. I just bought a Ferret Nation cage and it is setup in the living room which is where the Ferret's play room will be. Through suggestions on forums, I will be making custom plexiglass gates to keep the Ferret out of the kitchen and the rest of the house. At least our living room has a good amount of space.
Through suggestions on this forum, I will be feeding raw meet and frozen whole prey. I may or may not also feed a high quality kibble. There are times we go out of town and I want the care taker to be able to easily feed the ferret. I still have much to learn and so I signed up for the mentor program and have been waiting for a response.
I think this forum is great and I have learned much since joining. I'll post pictures when I adopt the Ferret.
Thanks! - DM

Hi, and welcome Just to let you know, we'll keep your mentor application on hold until you bring your ferret home. We'll get you matched up at that point As for ease of feeding while you are gone, most on here simply package up the raw in labelled containers. Caretaker simply has to set a day's worth to defrost in the fridge, then simply dump the container of that meal's meat in the cage. Others use freeze dried raw. It's packaged like a kibble, but is still raw, and simply has to be rehydrated. It can be fed dry, but you still run into the same problems of borderline dehydration you get with kibble. Anyway- those are just a couple of options Please, feel free to browse, post, ask questions, etc. Check out the nutrition section for methods of switching(although kits are easy), as well as the menus in the archives area of diet.

Hi and welcome on board Please feel free to prowl ask questions (everyone's friendly....though look out once you get a fuzz you will be innondated with requests for photo postings ) A mentor will be assigned to you when you get your little furry bundle(s) of fur and teeth. In the meantime, make yourself at home, get involved with some of the discussions (it's the easiest way to learn ) ciao

Welcome! Congrats on the soon-to-be new addition. As for the kibble for when you go out of town - I recommend freeze dried instead. All of the nutrition of raw, with all of the convenience of kibble!

I'll consider freeze dried for being out of town, thanks for the suggestion. And Bev... photography is one of my passions and I own a nice DSLR. I'll take tons of pics!
