we have success with raw egg!! both chauncey and grizel have eaten it - with NO prompting/help from me!! twice now
and one of them, or maybe both, eat the freeze dried liver stuff, too.
so, now with the egg, i can use that as a base for introducing chunks of meat.
so, we have egg and organ soupie that they will definitely eat. consistantly, eat - every time offered and not just a taste, they finish it all

i left a day-old chick in their bowl overnight. wasn't touched at all. chauncey did sniff at it this morning when i held him & it and tried to get him to bite at it...nope, he just took a few sniffs.
he didn't turn his head away though, so, little bit of progress there
going to start with egg-based mush this weekend and see about kicking things up a notch...only have so much of the evo kibble left (and i won't buy it now since p&g has it)...
and...
i'm picking up two girls tonight - mother/daugher aged 2 & 1 respectively. they should be easy-switchers since they're breeder ferrets - still, in the interim, that'll be more kibble being eaten. so, gotta step things up with chauncey & grizel!!
it'll be nice to have oberon's niece & great niece here!!

they don't look anything like their uncle...don't have pics yet...they are almost identical!! SO hard to tell which is which!!! i'll get some pics this week - want to let them de-stress a bit
i knew the mom had had raw at the breeders - the daughter is the result of an oopsie mating (the v-hob was still shooting good stuff), so, was not at the breeders and hadn't been given anything raw except maybe just the initial mush given at weaning.
anyhoo, i offered mice and BOTH ran over to grab them out of my hands...and promptly stashed them for midnight snacking. one mice was gone this morning and the other was still there - it was eaten some time during the day. i had put one out for chauncey & grizel and it was still sitting in the bowl, so, i gave that to the ladies a little while ago.
i actually think both of them ate the mice - there was too much kibble left in the bowl (compared to yesterday) so, their bellies had to be full from mice if they weren't eating the kibble. so, that's a good sign!

Isn't it great raw feeding the little ones. I gave Minion a rabbit haunch and he's busy chewing on it, no questions asked....just nomnom. What colour are they and do they have names yet? ciao

they're both sables and both have outlines on their noses - they are SO hard to tell apart!! they do have names although, they don't seem to be responding to them - which could be they don't identify with them or it could be i'm calling navi idgy and idgy navi.
lol, i like the name idgy - it's different and cute...if it fits her personality, it'll stay. navi i don't like as much. i do have to check with mary to see if i can change their names or not (since they're breeder kids, i may not be able to at this point).

You may be able to change what you call them, you may not be able to change what they're registered as. Where did you get them from (there are a number of Mary's on the breeders listings). It's difficult enough to tell fuzzes of the same colour apart on the fly much less little ones that are so similar in colouring and markings. Napoleon, Ghenghis and Thor were my identical trio. It was difficult enough to tell them apart when you could look at them straight on, it was especially hard to tell them apart when they were on the move. ciao

they're from novel beginnings.
the mother is from a planned litter, the daughter was an oopsie from a mating with what was supposed to be a v-hob (she put him in with her too soon after the fix so he still had viable sperm). so, probably only the mother has any kind of 'official' name.
they're still in transition and getting familiar with me, so, i expect them to not respond to things (names) until they're comfortable here. if they don't start to, i will speak with her about new names and how that is dealt with.
gave them quail this morning - which, although they moved them (two of the 2-week size) they hadn't nibbled at them and one was eating kibble when i left for work...so, we'll see how they do with feathers

Please keep me posted as to the outcome. It will be interesting as to how they have decided to deal with the feathers part ciao

when i got home both the heads were gone - they hadn't touched the rest of them, tho. i let them out to play for a while and when i switched out groups, they sniffed at the carcasses. didn't start fiddling with them until a couple hours later. not a thing left by morning
i think i'm going to leave kibble for part of the day and then remove it to give them natural - i need to be able to observe who is eating and how much before i remove the kibble completely. i don't see it taking more than a week, maybe 10 days, to go through all the various things i normally give to test what they like/what they need help with and then i can move them off the kibble completely.
i just wish chauncey & grizel would be more receptive!!!! tried fuzzy mice and a chick with them again and they didn't touch either
i'm free to change their names - mary doesn't care and they've never been shown before, so, no issues there with making a change. now i just have to listen well to find out what their names really are!!

Congratulations, that's fantastic. Quail is on the menu They ate the quail, maybe they just need time to get their tastes around the rest. I would have thought they would eat the chick without issue. Have you tried to feed some pinkies to see if it's a fur thing that has them bugged. ciao

the new girls have eaten everything so far - it's chauncey and grizel who haven't. fuzzy mice didn't go over at all nor the chick. i have to see if i have any pinky mice left - i might.

OOps, My bad I'm terrible with names, and with ferret names I'm usually good but really goofed on that one. Try the pinkies if you have any, maybe the texture of having wrappings is detering them ciao

raw egg with small chicken bits were a fail for chauncey & grizel and also for the new girls all any of them did was lick up a little of the yolk...although, grizel did eat a couple of the chunks, so, that wasn't all that bad - she did stop after she'd gotten those couple bits down the hatch though...
i may try just the egg tonight and see if that's better rec'd (like it was the last time i gave it). was surprised the girls didn't eat the chunks since they did eat the chicken wing the other day (whole thing; not one bit of anything left ).
