My boyfriend solders (pronounced like sodders). Lincoln got onto his desk and I didn't know the stuff was there, its normally in the closet. Lincoln had it on his nose and not sure if he licked any. I'm really scared. The soldering paste for human skin causes irritation (like a chemical burn). Ingestion says "not likely". For first aid for ingestion it says "Drink lots of water or milk" Lincoln had none on his teeth or fur around his mouth. Not likely he ate any. Was a lot on his nose so I cupped water in my hand about 4 times and drenched his nose. It's been about 20 minutes and he is sleeping now. No pawing at his face, no watery eyes, no redness on nose. I opened his mouth and his tongue looks normal too, pink and does not look burned or irritated. If he shows any pain I'm taking him to the vet immediately. But I think he will be okay... But should I take him to the vet now?

I solder too, but the old fashion way.. I started in highschool and we used the regular solder ... I have never heard of Soldering paste- does it contain lead like normal solder? I would call the vet and see what they say.. or maybe a poison contol hotline?

If he didn't ingest any, I don't think you will have a problem. Keep an eye for a chemical burn, but he should be fine.

I think that you're talking about "flux," aren't you? It comes as either a gel or a white powder? Keep a very close eye, 'cause that stuff is dangerous.

Does it look like yellow vaseline - I used to solder electric parts - or is it gray - for copper plumbing - both are thick and can be wiped off - and then wiped with a wash cloth and then I would rinse a couple times - call the vet just in case

I think giving him a bit of cream couldn't hurt, like poison control first aid for injestion..........the milk (for humans) it increases the mucosa in the digestive tract to minimize irritation

I don't know about any of that stuff so I didn't know there was a difference. Does it look like yellow vaseline - I used to solder electric parts - or is it gray - for copper plumbing - both are thick and can be wiped off - and then wiped with a wash cloth and then I would rinse a couple times - call the vet just in case It's the yellow vaseline stuff. And I kept an eye on him and tried to get water down him but he didn't drink any. No chemical burns, but I'm not sure if he ate any or not. As I said, I don't think so since there was no residue anywhere. But I still worry. The vet told me to just watch for any bleeding from his mouth or stools or any pains. Then bring him in as there is not much they can do besides coat his stomach with things. I gave him some Ferret Lax and he's probably had water. Keeping an eye on him today to make sure he does have some. Thank you all. That's just a very scary thing for him to get into

I think the solder paste cleans the metal when it gets hot - it reacacts with metal and heat- if you get it on you at room temp and wipe it off nothing happens - so hopefully it will pass just like vaseeline IF he ate any - you can syringe feed him water - I hope he's ok

He seems good and it's been around 36 hours, so I think we are in the clear. Little butt giving me a terrible scare like that! He is active and shows no signs of pain, eating and drinking well too. Thank you all so much for the information!
