Hi everyone, Just thought i'd show you the new 'Ferret coop' that I got off e-bay for my fuzzies. The picture that i have attached is just the e-bay picture, it came today and i have attached tubes to the sides around the edges etc. and i have put a huge litter tray in the corner underneath the indoor part. The hutch is in my garden on the concrete path, I was thinking of using bark as flooring ( i don't like the idea of them being on concrete all the time.) What do you think? is it safe? I did have an idea of using artificial turf but the man in the shop said if they chew it, it might poison them so i've decided against that idea!! I love the indoor part of the coop, its HUGE and i've filled it with fleasy blankets for them to 'burrow' into. I'll add some more pictures when I get chance to take some! its chucking it down now so ill do it later. Just wanted to know what you guys thought of the cage itself? Claire.

Oh that looks like fun! I love it and I bet they will too! As for the ground, I suggest getting berber carpet. You can usually find large rugs for pretty cheap (check out Home Depot).

ok, thanks ill have a look into that- would it be OK for outside though? if it got wet (in the rain) would take forever to dry? And they might 'dig' at it forever x

<----- jealous. I bet they are going to love it! It looks awesome, I want one now. Mind if I save the pic? My fiancee is planning to make a ferret palace for the kids when we get a house so i like to fill my desktop with ideas as for the ground, why not linolium- you can probably get a pretty good cut of it for cheap, like carpet, but it'd be more outdoor friendly

It would take a very long time to dry, and might even get moldy. Why not just get some Lino? That way when they have accidents on it, it will be much easier to clean

What would you have as flooring then? wont lino go mouldy underneath too? and I think it would be slippery when it gets wet... i'll have soggy ferrets slipping about all over :-) I was thinking of bark but i'd obviously have to change it every once in a wile and hope they don't poop and wee all in it xx

If it's been really wet out, once the rain stops, you could always just lift the lino on it's side to dry, just in case.

you could always look for ceramic tile to lay down for flooring. You can usually find it pretty cheap on Craigslist, if not free. Depending on the dimensions of the coop just a couple of 18x18 squares would do. If you can't find them on CL you can always ask at HomeDepot, Lowes or a flooring company if they have any leftover samples or already opened cases for a discount. If you have a Habitat for Humanity Re-Store Thrift store near by that's also a good place to look for cheap flooring. Also at Lowes and HomeDepot they have sheets of laminated-ish wall board. It's used as wall coverings in bathrooms and has a tile type design embossed in it...it's not fiberglass or anything like that but one sheet of that under the coop might work and then all you have to do is hose it clean.
