Well, basically this is my new ferret enclosure that the boys moved into over the weekend. Turbo and Crash were jealous of foxfire's big enclosure
It was the smaller of 2 garden sheds that only gets an hour direct sunlight in the early morning. The floor was already concreted, so i just covered it in lino, replaced half the roof with clear UV plastic (I don't know the proper name), removed the old tool shelves and replaced it with an elevated area, plus removed the sliding door and added a galvanized mesh door.
It's 2.9m by 1.9m, so plenty big enough for the two of them.
It's about 90% complete ATM, I still need to put in vents in the back for a breeze during summer and put shade cloth to keep it cool also during the summer. I googled ferret courts and saw some awesome aggie pipe/chicken wire tunnelling over the shed walls, so would also like to eventually add something like that. But or now, i think they're loving the extra room they have.
All the mesh, wood and half the roofing were free, so all i had to purchase were the lino flooring and the other half of the roof. So all up (including nails and screws etc) it cost under $50 =D
No matter where they would be housed, summer is going to get really hot here, so I will one or two eskis with frozen bottles to act as air conditioned rooms, plus paddling pools. I’m open to any other suggestions for the summer. And any suggestions to make the enclosure more fun for the boys are also appreciated
Outside view, with Turbo next to the door
Elevated shelf on the right hand side of the enclosure (with a mini platform they can't get to atm)
Pipe leading up to the elevated platform, ball pit, ferret cage that they use a a bedding area covered with blackout curtain
Bedding area again, with Crash's cardboard box ontop (Turbo is forbidden!), their cat tree, shade cloth because they like the texture, and a beer box where they stash their food
This is to the left of the door, where the litter box, dig box and water dish are. I've also attached a pair of old pants to the cage(next pic) that they use as tunnels
the old old old cage that Crash was in for about a month when we brought him home. I think i might let them have access to it, but for now that's where they go when i'm doing a big clean. I also use the top as storage. They have theire little hammocks hanging underneath too
I tried to get an overall view but couldn't, so you kind of have to piece it together
