Has anyone fed these to their ferts before?
I found some frozen ones at the raw pet food place, and thought they'd be a great small fish for them. They did eat them, and there was a bit of coughing/hacking while eating them. I thought they just ate too fast. However when I took the bowl away there was a lot of what I guess to be scales left behind. It's weird! Never even thought of that happening. I've fed fish before and not scale issues.
Anyone else with this? Should I stop feeding them?
thx

Sounds to me like they might have been eating it too quickly. I noticed that sometimes mice cause this same affect with my guys and it seems to be directly related to how long the fur is (see it on rabbits too). Perhap, the loose scales is the clue. I've read that some fish "shed" scales more than others...perhaps the loose scales is the issue. I don't know anything about anchovies other than the "prepared" ones . Fresh ones should provide no problems. ciao

Only problem I've ever had with fish was Lucrezia pigging out on smelts ;D Ate far too many, far to quickly. She was as sick and as "green" looking as a kid that ate candy floss the same way!

Lol sherry, neka was like that! I think they may have eaten fast, but that's unusual for zeke he loves his food and enjoys every taste of it lol Ill take a closer look next time to see how they are eating. It was more the left over scales that threw me lol Heather, I have NO experience with fresh or prepared anchovies lol

Why don't you try "scaling" the fish a bit (rubbing a knife in the opposite direction to the way the scale lays on the fish). This should lift the excess scale and perhaps prevent them from choking on the loose scales (if that is indeed the problem) ciao
