Hi everyone just wanted to share an observation i've made and get some input from all of you. First, a little background. I use sherrys basic meal plan of 4 days bone/2 meat/1 "freebie/organs. My ferret, Weasel, gets a ton of variety. Included in his weekly diet is a meal of liver, a meal (or two) of hearts, and some other rabbit organs from hare today. He also gets squash baby food every/every other day. He has surprisingly consistent, good poops, except for on muscle only days when they get a little runny. My observation is this- some weeks, when i'm all out of muscle meats, he gets an extra day of bone in. He doesn't ever seem constipated during those weeks, and in fact his poops look better those days/weeks. When I give bone in, its always a large hunk of meat attached to an edible bone, such as a rabbit rib cage with lots of "meat" attached. Some times the bone in chunks appear to be a little more meat than bone. my question is this: assuming that Weasel eats all of the edible bone he gets (doesn't always eat whole chicken legs, usually just the meat), what are the consequences of feeding more frequent bone in meals? I havent changed his meal plan yet, but based on a few isolated incidents where i ran out of muscle meat, i've gotten to thinking about it. Thanks, as usual

Watch his stools - if he's constipated you're feeding too much. I think the goal is to hit 10%-15% bone, so as long as that ratio is kept you should be fine feeding bone everyday.

The menu I gave you is just an average some need more bone, some less. I've got one girl who can easily have ten or eleven bone in meals a week, and have no problems at all. Another who, if she has more than 8 starts to get drier stools. That's the very best thing about a raw diet- you tailor it to the individual ferret's needs

thats really good to know . I usually try to give a bone in meal on organ days, and noticed that it does a lot to improve the quality of the stools so that they aren't so runny. hence my logic was that it could be a good way to help on muscle meat days as well
