this is meow-meow. she came to me on thursday the 7th. she was abandoned at work. took her to the vet friday. found out that se was about 3 wks, had 2 eye enfections and low on fluids. was giving KMR. vet gave her fluids, and meds for her eyes. Saturday she still hadnt pooped with stimulation, but would pee. took her to vet and they FINALY got her to poop after 45min. she had us start adding wet kitten and raw turkey. sunday- no poop but learned to pee by herself. monday, back to the vet. felt like she couldnt handle the formula. vet had us stop formula and just use water to mix with kitten/raw food. monday night tried hard to poop, but couldnt (wouldnt even try before). this morning, back to vet. gave her a dose of lactulose. one hour later, nice poop. vet is going to keep her on the med twice a day until she is 6-7 wks, ( the age they would normally be ready to be off moms milk). the feeling is that since her poop is more solid due to being weaned sooo early, her bowels arnt quite strong enough. eye infection is gone. other than that, she is healthy. heather- vet wants me to TRY and get her compleatly switched to raw by the time she is ready to stop the meds. that way, she wont have to switch again.

She's gorgeous, poor wee thing abandoned and left to fend. Thank you so much for taking her in and giving her a forever home. If she cannot tolerate KMR (which doesn't surprise me as it's now filled with soya products) have you tried goats milk? It's easily tolerated by most carnivores. I know on the raw feeding list that I'm on a number of members who have hand raised kittens (it is a raw cat list originally) on goats milk. Normally, they use raw goat's milk, but I've found that if you use whole pasteurized milk it works too. I believe that they also mix raw egg yolks with it too (I can double check if you're interested) ciao
