Is Parsley ok for ferrets? I got some Zwipeak freeze dried (dog formula was all they had) because the store was all out of Stella and Chewey's and I am going out of town for a few days later this week. I wanted to have FD to make things easier. Anyways, they didn't have a lot of flavors but one was lamb and parsley.... I got a little sample pack (to make sure they will eat it seeing as how they are so picky about lamb stuff) but I don't want to open it (I can return it) or try it until I know that parsley is ok for them...

Parsley is laded with nutrients - it certainly won't hurt.
I'sd be more concerned about the inulin, which is the beet root. Inulin is a "sugar" that's used as a pre-biotic to feed the probiotics. I've fed Ziwipeak, and I buy some occassionally. I seriously doubt there's enough inulin to do any harm as long as it's not the only thing you're feeding LONG TERM. - it might be an issue if all you feed is ziwipeak for your ferret' entire life - but then again, it may not be an issue at all. I would go ahead and try the ziwipeak.

Hmmm.... I don't like the sound of that! I am def not a huge fan of the stuff but it's hard to get sitters to deal with the meat, and last time my roommate pet sat for me it was a disaster. I will only be gone for 4 days so they will only be getting a little of the Zwipeak. As for the parsley, if it is so nutrient rich would it potentially be beneficial if I ground some up into their normal pumpkin?

Parsley is a diaretic for humans and used to cleans the organs....use it sparringly. I could find no reason why not to use it. It seems to be used as a kidney assist remedy in cats. My guess....it's still a diuretic ciao

Like Parsley, marine Kelp is also one of those "super greens" that provide a lot of nutrients. It's used as a supplement for minks - it's in ferret nupro supplement as well. It's also a diuretic. I rotate my supplements, and kelp is one of the supplements I use.

Ziwipeak has been a staple in my ferts FD mix for almost 3 years now, so I have never seen a problem with it. They love it, too ;D

Keep in mind that Parsley is a plant and in order to glean any nutrients from it the ferret would need a way to digest the plant. Ferrets simply do not have digestive tracts designed to digest plants. I doubt there would be much value obtained from ingesting Parsley.
If your caretaker refuses to feed your animals the diet they are accustomed to then you have a couple alternatives. Find a different caretaker, accustom your ferrets to eating freeze dried and dried meat items and reconstituted dried meat items, or you could take the ferrets with you and then of course there is always- stay home with the ferrets.
Any substitute caretaker should at least be able to feed your animals according to your wishes and the animals needs. When you leave the ferrets already get stressed out emotionally- adding dietary stress is unnecessary and could turn harmful.
