What does the temperature have to be to house ferrets outdoors? I was thinking about putting their cage outside during the day and maybe the night starting this summer when it's warmer. If it's to cold or hot I would bring them in. I think they would like the fresh air and noises and the sunlight whenever they are in their cage. I do take them on walks, I just want to do something more for them... something different. ;D Thanks

Ferrets shouldn't be kept in temperatures over 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Cold is a little more dependent on your ferrets and whether you provides ways for them to stay warm. They can withstand fairly cool temperatures if they have each other to cuddle for warm and something like a nest box. holisticferret60.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=cage&action=display&thread=114I personally wouldn't leave my ferrets out if it's below freezing but if they have winter coats and ways to keep warm, they should be fine in temps above that.

The heat is what you have to be weary of. The have minimal ways to cool off. In the cold, they can curl up in a warm nesting box.

Before leaving a ferret in an enclosure overnight please check out if heartworm is prevelant in your area and if so start heartworm preventatives...

Thank you Heartworm is not an issue in my area. The average temp. in the summer where I live is around the 70's. Summer nights it gets down to the 40's. I'm not real worried about the heat but more of the cold. But I think I get an idea about what is okay and what's not. It was warm yesterday and I put them outside and I think they liked the fresh air and sun. Today's supposed to be nice to so I will put them out again once it warms up. Right now they are running around the house.
