Hi everyone!! I'm very excited to have found this site. I have two ferrets, Genevieve and Skittles; they're my sunshine, haha.
I hadn't realized that a raw diet was so imperative for a healthy ferret. My father owned ferrets before he had children and had told me that none of his ferrets lived much longer than four years (he lost most of them to cancer). I love my girls and anything I can do to extend their lives even by a small measure is well worth the effort to me...though I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to feed them live animals.
It's so nice to have so many ferret (and animal!) lovers in one place. I look forward to speaking to all of you!
Stephanie

Hi and welcome Yes, a raw/whole prey diet can definitely make a difference for them. Don't get me wrong- you will still likely have to deal with some of the nastier things that come along, like adrenal and lymphoma. Insulinoma, while odds are decreased drastically on raw, isn't eliminated either. What it does do is give them a TON more resources to help their bodies cope if they DO get ill. And with injuries, or surgeries, it helps them heal a lot faster, too Please, feel free to post, ask questions, join the conversations and the fun And check out the nutrition section for tips and hints. You can sign up for a mentor for a one on one diet switch if you like, and/or you can start a thread in the newbie question section in diet to get a head start while waiting for a mentor Oh- and pics are pretty much mandatory here ;D

Hi and welcome on board. Please feel free prowl around, check out the various sections. As Sherry has told you of all the important sections to check out I would like to say that please understand that there is no such thing as a stupid question and that you don't have to feed prey if you choose not to. Feeding raw is about feeding meats and bones to represent prey (frankenprey ). So, if it bothers you to feed prey, you don't have to ;D As you might have noted....they really love photos here and the one way to get them to stop pestering you is to post some I hope that I will be seeing you around ciao
