So I ordered a small sample pack from caseys and a thing of stella and chewys duck and chicken steaks to try out on my crew, for vacations or me being lazy or whatever. Haven't fed anything freeze dried in years, do you guys leave it dry or rehydrate usually? Do they take to it pretty well? I'm hoping to use it on the cat too and I'd rehydrate it for her.

I don't rehydrate it. My boys won't go near it if I do. Jackie's girls on the other hand, won't touch it if it is dry.

I always feed it wet in a soupy. My girls love the stuff - but it has to be smoothly blended, consistency of yogurt. They occasionally will snack on it dry.

Lol! So maybe a wait and see. I used to feed Wysong Archetype 1 as a treat dry but that was years ago.

Sonny eats it both wet & dry. I make him soupies with crumbled up Duck Duck Goose & the chicken patties. In his bowl, I always leave dry Beef & lamb chunks I break the patties up into 1 inch x 1 inch chunks. He also gets Wysong Archetypal 1 which is chicken.

My kids prefer it dry. I'm of the opinion that the value in the freeze-dried raw is that you can feed it dry - I leave a bunch of it out when I travel for over a week at a time. This would not be possible if I fed the stuff wet. Just be sure to provide a LOT of water. I put up multiple water bottles per ferret when I travel as wel. I always put out more food and water than they will need in case I get delayed.

My kits eat S/C wet. Break it up and pour hot water over it. Let it cool, then serve it.

Definitely gotta order myself some Stella and Cheweys, the girls eat wysong and ziwipeak when I'm in a crunch but I'd love to have the patties of the Stella and chewys so I could actually take a vacation at some point in my life

If you plan to leave your ferrets unattended, be SURE you leave TOO MANY water bottles for them....water bottles can fail. And if they ware eating dry food, they will need more water than normal.
When my kids are on their own, I spy on them with a web cam. They have their own room with access to their huge cage as well - the cage door is open all the time. The room has been ferrret-proofed for years. Depending on the ferrets and the arrangement, you may need somebody to check on them/let them romp, or whatever. My ferrets have a a lot of space, so I can leave them unattended without causing too much stress.

I make my mom stay at my house while I'm on vacation. She even has to sleep in the same room with my ferrets. LOL.

Haha agreed! I don't think I could ever leave my ferrets alone, someone would have to be checking on them at least a few times a day. Sadly I don't yet have my mom trained. She's still too nervous around them, and of couse Olivia tries to take a chomp out of her whenever I try to get her to handle them Guess the ferrets don't want me to ever leave haha.

Sherri my parents used to have ferrets so they UNDERSTAND me! my parents live just a few blocks away and my dad is always here to see his grandferret. he always wants to take him home with him. he begs me "please let me take him home for one night i'll bring him back tomorrow." yeah right!

I hope they will take it dry, that will make it much easier if we ever do vacation, so far the longest we've left since we got pets has been two nights. ;D And we worry like crazy the whole time! A web cam would be nice, we have a friend who hangs out at the house so the dogs don't have to be locked up or if it's hot so the AC in the ferret room can be on, they get checked on a couple times a day.
And in the last few months we've had several ferret emergencies and me being sick a couple times and it's been hard to juggle raw if I'm not here or feel too crappy to go down to the freezer. Luckily they don't mind a cold meal.

Arrgggs. Made a big post and lost it! Man I hate that.
Anyways...got my order today! I got two afs patties in the sample pack, so I get to try those out too, but both have beef so ferrets only. And some ziwipeak venison, totally didn't realize it was little jerky chunks and not a formed patty or nugget. The ferrets seemed to like the cat one ok and the dogs loved the dog version, think I'll use up those like treats.
I broke up and wet one of the S&C chicken patties and gave some to the cat and some to the ferrets, ferrets dug right in but the cat ignored it. So I mixed some of her canned in and she did eat it, and didn't yak it back up like usually happens if I try to sneak anything in canned. Hopefully I can get her eating it on her own next and I still have to give the ferrets a dry patty and see if they'll eat it. How long do you guys usually let it rehydrate? My cat's a food junkie and leaving food out of her reach usually results in a huge mess when she tries to get it and knocks in on the floor instead. So I didn't let it sit too long but wasn't sure if it matters a lot.
