Hello Everyone I’m Tamara and I introduced myself a few years ago when I adopted my first weasel baby. 8 ferrets later I’m left with only one baby who is now 5 years old named Porkchop (female sable). I came across her and her sister on an online post. The cage was outside in the Texas summer heat so I quickly contacted the owner to come meet them. After seeing the cage with no food or water and full of excrement I offered cash for both weasels. Shameful as it was I also opened my mouth about the deplorable conditions and the dangers of summer heat. I miss all my babies dearly and I want to hang on to this one as long as I can so I focused on changing her diet. Finally after years of trying to get my babies to go raw I was able to transition Porky to FDR and get her off of Marshall’s kibble. So far she has a clean bill of health from the vet which I’ve never had for a ferret her age. Happy to be back on the forum and talking with everyone. This website has helped me so much during my time as a ferret owner and I thank all of you for it!!

Welcome back! We're also down to our last plus an elder adoptee that had lost her lifelong buddy.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I keep myself open to any needing a home. It’s sad to just have one left but after 8 ferrets, a rabbit, a cat, a fish, and 4 dogs I may be calming down a bit. Only have her and the three dogs left (pups stayed with my ex after divorce). I did recently adopt a cat that was in the shelter a long time and was returned. Sadly Porky seems a little afraid of the cat. I watch them like a hawk with anxiety but Pork mostly hides. Also noticed a bit of hair thinning on her tail so I made an appointment with her vet for adrenal disease. I noticed the forum seemed a bit quiet recently.

After I retired i got a part time job at a rescue. dogs and kats, but I'm a cat lover. I brought home a beat up 10 year old long haired yellow male that had been at the shelter for a year and had medical conditions that kept him in a cone of shame for months Sunny, aka Mr Sunshine. The grumpy curmudgeon who owns me. IMG_5637 by unclejoe1158, on Flickr

abbeytheferret6 Porky (porkchop) got her name because she was the biggest female I’ve ever seen (3lbs) and when I called her that she came to me haha. She was diagnosed with adrenal disease and insulinoma today, waiting on a surgery quote. unclejoe I love your yellow boy cat! Mine was in the shelter so long they waved the adoption fees and I was forced to foster him first due to him being returned for behavioral issues. I knew I wouldn’t bring him back no matter what (even grumpy cats need a safe home) but I complied and a week later told them I wasn’t coming back because he’s amazing! They called him a flame…he’s all orange

Mr Sunshine is a permanent foster. He's been here 16 months and he's a permanent resident. I spoke up at a chain pet store about ferret housing conditions and a few weeks later things were better.

Awe well he’s a lucky cat. I love that you spoke up about the ferrets living conditions. I can’t even go in and look at them anymore. Last time I was there the food and water bowl was completely full of the newspaper bedding they use. Luckily the shelter I went to for my cat was the most well cared for I’ve ever been in. I was shocked at how much they took care of all the animals.

the rescue where I work is very clean. My area is the community kat room, and when that's done I find other areas to help out. Haven't seen any ferrets in 2 years, but a bunny and a hedgehog that got adopted quickly. since this is a fereret form, I'll pm you a link

I used to volunteer at a cat shelter. It wasn’t nice at all but they were trying hard to help the stray cat community out. I’ve never seen a ferret in a shelter yet and I hope I don’t because I would be coming home with them.

when I volunteefred ata humane siciety shelter in FL I saw quite a few ferrets. I adopted one and found a home at a rescue for one that had had his foot amputated. I would have laved to take him but I had 9 at the time. They usualy got adopted pretty quickly.

Oh my gosh I would have snatched that one up so quickly. I get it, I refused two when I was up to 8 and my friend adopted them to make her total 8 as well haha. I likely won’t be adopting anymore for now but it’s never completely off the table. I’m donating my things to a ferret shelter near me after my last one goes.
