This is a sad post to the extent I'm crying while writing this. My ferret got ill a few weeks ago so I took her to the vets and got some meds which helped her perk up but a few weeks later she's gone down hill quite a bit. She's not eating, not walking and lost a lot of weight. Today I was giving her her meds and trying to give her some food and water but she really wasn't having it and I realised that she probably doesn't want to do this anymore. She's probably feeling so ill and just wants some peace. She can't keep her eyes open and I don't know if she's given up. She'll have some salmon oil but she can't finish what I give her like she normally does and it made me realise that she may be ready to go whether that's on her own or through euthanasia. I'm heartbroken and unsure. She's the first ferret I've had this poorly and possibly the first to go. I'm hoping the meds will help her turn around and miraculously she'll be better in the morning but I just don't know. I'm devastated and torn on whether to keep fighting with her or to let her have peace before she gets any worse. I wish I got more time with her she's a sweetheart and I miss the way she'd come running when I entered the room. I just want her to be happy and don't know what to do.

I can only suggest the vet once more. Sometimes one round of antibiotics isn't quite enough. If she's older, it may just be her time. I promise you, I know what you are going thru. I've been there 29 times, with just ferrets. I'll monitor this thread till midnight ET if you want to talk about it. I'm not a vet. I wish you both peace

Thanks for the reply and advice. I cuddled her last night and she found peace this morning I'm heartbroken but happy she's not suffering anymore and glad I was able to vent. She did so much for me so I hope she's happy now. DIP my little angel

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm glad you were able to have the last cuddles. Every one I've had that was ready to leave seemed to want to give me some love as gratitude before they left. It's so touching, and yet so heartbreaking. She knew she was loved.

Very sorry to hear about the outcome, but at least you got some good cuddling in before she went so you could both tell each other how much love there was between you. Rest in peace.

I am so sorry. May your memories bring smiles instead of tears. Dook in peace little girl.
