Y’all i’ve posted on here numerous times about my boys and i’ve taken so many suggestions and tried to do my own research and find other threads on here, but i seem to come across the same issues.
Anyways, one of my boys (dexter) will NOT stop scratching at the carpets and doors in my room? we keep him in there because our apartment is not easily ferret proofed and i have not been able to buy him a playpen yet. I’ve gotten a carpet protector, so the carpet isn’t being dug at as much, but he just started to scratch at the doors. Chipping the paint off etc. He will scratch until literal exhaustion and i can hear him pant from the other rooms. I’ve tried deterring him, i’ve tried redirecting him to his dig box or his cage but nothing helps. i’ve put tape on the door, he scratched it off. i’m at a loss? it’s like he’s getting cage rage but in an entire room? i understand that he could be getting bored in there but he has a friend and toys, tunnels and a dig box and i really just need help.

Also, is it possible for ferrets to have separation anxiety?? if so how do i fix that?? because it seems like if someone is in the room with him, he doesn’t scratch nearly as much? i just need suggestions

Never saw a closed door they did not want in!
Have you thought about taking him for walks? They love to explore soooo much ---poor things. It is just in them. Make sure you have a good harness. Don't have a long leash. Like if u do, and it is extended out and he slips out ---not good.
Yes one room is not enough for these little babies because of that trait. You may have to get creative with boxes with holes cut in them ----have some tunnels in his room---use the black plastic drainage tubes from Lowes. They r used on the end of downspouts to direct water away from house. I kept these long drainage tunnels behind my couch. They were always in them. Maybe have some under your bed.
I took my ferrets to my brother in law's house once. He had a junk room. I let them lose in it. Oh my, they had fun!
What about a shower exploring day? I got my Annabelle from a lady who said the ferret liked to shower with her. she was a water baby sure enough. Anyway if he doesnt like the water it would be a new experience for him. New experiences--stimulate the mind. you got a junkie closet he can dig in for a while?
Exploration is the word!
