Recently we got a new ferret, he is a baby around 3 months I think. I noticed he seems hard of hearing but is very playful, he seems healthy and we have had him for about six days, when he plays and eats he makes very loud noises and breathy noises. Could this be because he is deaf?

Quite possibly! Like deaf humans, deaf ferrets tend to be louder than the others because they don't hear themselves. It's still possible to train a deaf ferret, by hand signals, flicking light switches, etc.
