Charlie has become a free roam ferret!! He doesn't just have a single room, but the whole house!! It started last week when I was getting ready for work and he went under the dresser to go to sleep. I couldn't get him to come out even with salmon oil!! So I had no choice but to leave him out and I went to work. When I got home I found him in my bedroom sleeping. He had one of his favourite toys out from his stash and looked like he was playing with it. He put it back in his stash when he woke up. lol He didn't want me to play with it. There was only one accident on the floor which was easy to clean up.
Then this Tuesday I left him out again. When I got home I found him sleeping under the covers in my bed. He even pooped on the puppy pads!! Then today (Wednesday) I left him out again and when I got home I decided to try calling his name to see if he would come out from the bedroom. He was up and had been in the living room and he actually came to greet me!! I know he just woke up because I went into my bedroom and found the warm spot in my bed where he was sleeping under the covers.
I've left his cage door open where his food is and he has been going up and eating his food too. He's been great at leaving his food in his cage and not hiding it in the house somewhere.

What a good boy!
When I had four (all free roamers), mine would stash food under a wrought iron bed on carpet. What a disaster! One would put meat up against the baseboard then use her nose to push it even more. I did the upside down box for them to eat in with an entry, but my waardy liked it as a potty house. Interesting though to watch and learn about their behaviors.

Congrats, it’s very enriching! Just be careful of escapes, following you out the door.

Interesting though to watch and learn about their behaviors. A first he use to take his food and stash it so I had to close the cage door and keep him in there while eating. He has learned that his food stays there now. Stashing it under beds is not fun to retrieve!! Charlie would do that at times too.

you been here a while, so you should know ferret proofing. I had 2 girls going and coming at will and I didn't even know until my neighbor brought Poppy to my door. They were using the hole under the kitchen sink

They were using the hole under the kitchen sink Yes, I'm well aware of ferret proofing when he gave me a scare real early on when I first got him and he was still a kit. I didn't want to experience that again!! He didn't escape but he got himself in a pickle and got stuck. I had to act fast and move furniture to get him out. He almost got squished when he got behind a book case and slid down where it narrowed. I've checked out all the places like under my sink and in my bottom cupboards and behind the washing machine, dryer and hot water tank. I have a bungalow with no basement so that is all on the same floor. I've had to block the one door because he can easily go under it to get into where the washer, dryer and hot water tank are. I'm more leery of him possibly getting into the crawl space through there but he's blocked there. He sleeps during the day when I'm at work other get go to the washroom. lol He has been free roaming during my days off when I'm home so I know he sleeps. He's on my schedule and is most playful at dust and dawn or before and after work, which works out real well.
