I have have had many ferrets over the years and this is a new one to me.
The other half was eating some banana bread while the ferrets where out playing. Rogue decides he need to investigate. We have always allowed our ferrets to explore their curiosity so we let them smell different foods. Every single time the sniff shake their heads in disgust and go on their way.
So When Rogue came up to smell the banana bread she let him smell. He instantly tried to take a bite. She pulled it back and he then could not be stopped he literally was all over her climbing up on her head as she put her arms stretched high to hold it out of his reach. He then proceeds to get ready to jump for it. I told her he is going to jump, then she felt him push off her shoulder and she was able to intercept him with her other hand before he got to the banana bread.
I have never seen a ferret jump without a destination suitable for them to land on as the target. He just wanted that banana bread.
Needless to say She had to leave the room to finish her banana bread because he would not be denied.
the other day He decided that he wanted some French bread and proceeded to steal a piece and head into the tube to eat it. we were able to grab him before he got into the tube.
Rogue is really living up to his name.

One of the wonderful things about ferrets is their curiosity, eh? And their unique personalities. Most of my ferrets are/were attracted to the smell of bananas, and a few were attracted to the smell of other fruits, esp melons. Carol/Poppy would try to steal a lot of different kinds of fruits, and I once caught her trying to claw here way into a cantaloupe, and sitting in a pot of potatoes in the pantry. Bella, my first, stole 6 peeled spude from a pot of water I left on the floor while went to the kitchen to check another dish, in less than 5 minutes. Let me tell ya, I was stunned and amazed when I cam back to a pot of just water. DSCF1863 by unclejoe1158, on Flickr

That is so cute:) We do the same. My Didi liked eating potatoes. I thought we had rats. I got rid of the lower wire shelf in the pantry after I caught her. My Tipsey liked finding walnut bits on the couch.

My Noodles loves anything with sugar and is relentless. Obviously I don't let him have it, but he will try his absolute hardest to get any sugar-y treat. My working theory is that since he spent his first couple months with kids in another home (I got him from a family that couldn't keep him) he may have gotten a taste of sugar through the munchkins. Either way, pop, candy, cereal, fruit leather...all appeal to him.

I think they have the taste for sugar from the marshal's food they are fed up until they leave the pet store. If I remember correctly they use molasses in their food.
I also believe that their instinct is sweet stuff is instant energy and what kit does not think they need more energy.
