It has been a couple months since we lost our last little Girl , we picked up 2 kits from Petco a couple days apart (I know but we have no other options in Southern Oregon)
First we pick up a little Boy that we eventually Named Rogue. Not having any Kits for 9 years we were immediately over whelmed. This kit was a spitfire and really started living up to his name. We decided we could give our toes and shins some relief by getting him a friend. Off to Petco again (different Petco) They just got in two kits that morning. We pick this tiny little cinnamon Boy that we named Mystic.
The 2 hit is off great and they were playing with each other and gave us our expected relief for our toes for just a couple days, the the obvious happened. they decided to gang up on us. It was hunting season for toes and shins and trying to climb up Pant legs, then it was the ambush, leaping, and giving plenty of ankle hugs. We both looked at each other and said what have we gotten ourselves into.
They both took to the raw diet right away like all kits do. we were glad to start emptying our freezer again from our last ferrets.
Then I get a call from a past work colleague. She says that she needs to find a home for 5 ferrets who's owner died recently. We both said sure no problem. A week goes by and she makes arrangements to drop them off to us. One of them is in really bad shape. Eyes glazed shut, and just curled up shivering. This being a Saturday and the only emergency vet in the area refuses to see ferrets, we called the semi local shelter (60 miles away) to see if we could locate some Antibiotics and fluids.
To make a long story short after Antibiotics and Sub Q fluids and what looked like she was getting better, she was eating raw soup on her own, eyes were staying encrusted, then suddenly on Monday early Monday morning we heard a scream from her cage. When we inspected we found her lifeless body. she had just passed.
On positive note she did not suffer very long with us and she got to open her eyes and see again. She had a full belly and a warm bed.
Her brothers and sister are doing great, some took to meat, some took to grind and some are eating just soup, but they are all eating and all gaining weight. We even have one that was just eating soup now eating grind. They are progressing in just a short week that we have had them.
The kits are giving some of the older boys h*ll. But most are taking it in stride. The female is getting picked on the most and I feel bad for her. But she is starting to give it back to them.
I will get some pictures posted up in the next few days.
We went from 0 to 6 in a single week. our lives will never be the same and I love it.
