I have Ferret Nation two level. I keep potties on levels my man likes to use. You know to prevent accidents, which does not always work 100 percent of time. I also keep my trays covered with baby blankets. If mine gets pooh between cage wires I roll it out onto the front porch and spray it down with a water hose. That is all. You can wipe it down with towel to prevent rust. If pooh is stuck on plastic trays(hardly ever with baby blankets there), I scrape it off and take it to the tub and spray it down.
I use soapy water or vinegar and water on trays---nothing special. Just water hose on cage. According to my vet, Lysol is toxic to ferrets---just a note.

I also have Ferret Nation 2 level. Each level has 1 litter box. I put their food/water on the small shelves and cover them with a flannel liner (to absorb water and discourage them from using it as a bathroom). The lower pans I leave uncovered but have beds/blankets. They are really good about using the litter box.
I keep a stash of blankets and swap them every couple days. Once a week I remove all bedding/liners and throw it in the wash with an unscented detergent. I sweep up any crumbs on the cage floor. When the weather is warm, I will sometimes take the pans outside and wash them with unscented soap.
I haven't really had to do much with the outer parts of the cage except wipe them down when they get dusty. My girls haven't pooped on the bars. I have some Nature's Miracle cage wipes I occasionally do spot cleaning with.

Ferret Nations are the best. If you don't have one, post a pic of your cage and we may be able to offer some tips. I don't cover the levels because having had 30 ferrets over time there was always one (until now) that regularly missed the 2 boxes provided. I did use newspapers for a while. (Anybody remember newspapers?) I use dish basins with a long side cut down for litter boxes, they are cheap and the high sides stop overshooting. I use lock-on crocks for water. I've never had to "hose 'er down," because it's so easy to remove shelves and doors if necessary. Bedding (hammocks, beds, sleep sacks and blankies) gets changed about every 2 weeks or as needed. It's a big cage for 2 ferrets. Boxes get scooped once a day, water gets changed at least every 2 days. For cracks and crevices. maybe a small stiff brush (tooth brush or paint brush) and a hand vac? Claws need clipping about every 10 days. I use a cat nail clipper. Some folks are ok with human nail clippers but I've always found them awkward. After doing nails, I check ears for dirt and mites and check teeth for overall condition. Especially check for broken canines and dark areas. Either of these should be checked by a vet. It's not easy getting a good look at the lowers, so every few weeks is ok. Have fun!

I also have a Ferret Nation 2 level cage. With 1 ferret he is great with doing his business in his litter trays with one on each level. His trays are covered with tray covers that I made for his cage along with his hammocks/bedding. I usually change that once a week and wash it with unscented detergent. The only tray that doesn't get covered is the top half shelf that has his food and water on it. My ferret eats raw so I put a place mat on it that I can wipe daily with soap and water. I also wash his tube that he likes to put his food into when he doesn't eat it. If the tray needs washing then I take it to the sink or tub and wash with soap and water. I pull out the cage from the wall and do a good wipe down of the cage itself every few months to remove dust and vacuum behind it as well. I scoop his litter trays daily and replace the puppy pads in the house where he goes most often every couple of days. Any time he has an accident in his cage I clean that up right away so he doesn't get any ideas that it's ok not to use his litter trays. Can't remember the last time he even had an accident.

I have a 3 storey hutch for my boys, each floor is lined with lino for easy cleaning.
They have a litter tray on each floor which is scooped when needed, and throughly cleaned once a week. I have a special sponge for it. They have a few accidents outside the tray but mostly they use them - they're so smart!!
The entire hutch is wiped down once a week with a type of unscented wet wipe and dried throughly.
All bedding and hammocks are changed weekly. They don't have toys in the mansion because they play in the garden. I've just built a new bed full of grasses and dug in tunnels. They're currently having loads of fun chasing each other through the tunnels - they never used the tunnels when I'd placed them in the hutch
So much fun to watch them

I have a two level ferret nation and really love how easy it is to pull out individual trays for cleaning. I sewed pillow case style fleece and cotton liners for all of the trays (except the bottom one which is their litter area) and ramps and wash those every few weeks. They have old cashmere and wool sweaters for sleeping in and those are great because they really don't hold odor or bacteria. They have a hammock and a cube too but don't use them much. I was really having a hard time getting them to stop going to the bathroom on every level when we first got them. I put their bedding and toys in every corner and food/water dishes. I found that my little ones hated stepping in to a box and would constantly go beside it so opted for sort of weird set up-I put a giant tub in the bottom level of the cage that takes up the whole bottom floor. It's amazing. It's a cement mixing bin from the hardware store, high sides, even Emmett who used to almost do a handstand doesn't get over the sides and onto the bars anymore. It took about two weeks and very diligent cleaning (hot water and vinegar with a toothbrush and a metal paint scraper for glued on bits) to stop them from pooping on the upper levels. We've had no accidents in the cage at all since switching to the bin and it's so nice not having multiple litter boxes taking up space in the mansion. I use newspaper pellet litter in their cage and puppy pee pads in our apartment. I wipe down the bars for dust once a month and scoop litter every two days, they only use two corners of the cement bin to do their business so it's very easy to scoop. I empty it completely and hose down once per week. Best of luck with your cleaning!
