A couple months ago I bought ground rabbit from hare-today. It was meat bone and organ. Once frozen it was a dark red
My new order of meats came in today, including rabbit and it’s a totally different color now. It’s all brown looking. Anyone know why? Im wondering if its a bad batch

I'm guessing the 1st one was packed relatively quick so it wasn't exposed to air for too long and there was not enough time to oxidise hence the bright red colour. The 2nd one was exposed to air for much longer therefor iron in meat/blood has oxidize in contact with air and turned brownish. But that's my guess only.

There is another explanation. the colour may depend to organs they used in grinds - some organs are rich in iron (dark red) and some other not (pale, white colour).

Maybe it was grounded differently, coarse and fine ground turn out different.

Coarse ground is less ground up than the fine one. Other than that, it's the same.

Not sure if im the only who encountered this problem but its worth mentioning. One of my ferrets choked on one of the bigger bones and I woke up to her gagging, and luckily got it out and shes been fine since. The other one started acting really weird like she ate something she wasn’t supposed to and started gagging and dry heaving so I immediately took her to the vet and she had 3 large bones in her stomach but she ended up passing them thankfully. So be weary if you buy coarse ground from hare today as i think the bones are too big and my knuckleheads don’t bother chewing them

I've lost my boy that way - he choked on some bone shards in commercial grinds. I don't buy 80-10-10 grinds since then. To be safe I do my own grinds now using 3mm plate so there are only very small bits of bones.
