As many of you know, Paulie is trying to lose his excess weight gained by the year he was on pred and his body's happy reception of raw meats.
For the past 6 months his diet has consistently been one NV raw medallion in the morning and one at night. He has lost weight on this, increased activity, and been pretty happy. At the occasional 3 medallion a day before pred, he was definitely getting chunky.
Well, Paulie has since discovered Ziwipeak Venison is delicious, and now gets one small serving ( a little over a dinnerware sized table spoon, or covering the bottom of the Ziwipeak scoop--kinda .5-1 NV medallion sized) in his cage a day to eat at his leisure. He most certainly eats in the day, and occasionally needs a snack refill (he now eats it even when he's not locked in the cage and wants a snack).
I am wondering on suggestions to reportioning his diet so he doesn't gain weight again. Since he can only eat the red meats and rabbit varieties of NV, I can't switch him to a lower fat variety to compensate. I know eating healthy snacks is good for him, but I also don't want his belly to drag the ground. And, I think he has gained some weight since starting this snack.
On the upside, his litter box is still pretty awesome.

Can you get any buffalo? I've read that its very low in fat compared to other red meats. Is he able to eat pork?

Oh my, the Bison is the highest fat NV. He loves that stuff, but his poop is soooo runny. I wish it weren't such a long trip to Howell--they have Bravo and I'd like to try him on some novel meats. Oh, Paulie only eats so far commercial ground and now Ziwipeak;. We've not yet made it to "real meat", haha. But pork is in their Rabbit formula for organs and it treats him fine.

If he's starting to put on weight again, and he shouldn't be, try giving him a smaller amount of the ziwipeak before you leave for work, and maybe a half medallion of the NV as soon as you get home. Since the NV doesn't have the sugars that ziwipeak does, his body should process it better.

That's true. I'll be on the lookout for a freeze dried without the sugars next shopping trip. I'm just glad to have something he can munch on in his cage when he gets hungry. Definitely want to allow him some--since there's no generator for my apartment if the power goes out.
Definitely started adding some moisture to them--I'll get him to taste real meats yet.

Have you tried ordering in either Stella and Chewy's? They do make a lamb formula.
